Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

That became something of a theme throughout this project — less is more — and this staircase might be one of my favorite examples of it.

I’ve always really enjoyed stair work. There’s something satisfying about the process: taking everything back down, working through the layout one piece at a time, fitting and scribing treads, cutting returns, gluing, fastening, chiseling, trimming, sanding, and slowly watching all those individual details turn back into one clean architectural feature.

This one received new natural maple treads, a new hardwood landing, rebuilt/updated trim and railing components, white newels and handrails, and simple matte-black horizontal rails.

It’s the kind of work where half the shop seems to come out — saws, chisels, mallets, adhesives, fasteners, sanders and plenty of careful fitting — only for the finished product to look like almost nothing happened at all.

That’s kind of the point.

Clean. Simple. Intentional.

Really enjoyed bringing this one together. 🙏

Another kitchen remodel in the books.

This one was a big project from start to finish, and I’m extremely happy with how everything came together.

A project like this starts long before demolition. We mapped out a detailed schedule and order of operations from the beginning — coordinating demolition, flooring, cabinetry, electrical, plumbing, countertops, appliances, backsplash and all of the smaller details in between. Good planning keeps a project moving, but just as importantly, it leaves room to adapt when something unexpected comes up.

This kitchen received new cabinetry, quartz countertops, a completely updated appliance layout, new lighting and electrical, wood-look porcelain plank flooring, and an 8x8 tile backsplash — along with plenty of custom details and problem-solving along the way.

One of my favorite parts of this project is how well everything works together. The warm cabinetry, bright quartz, gray tile and wood-look flooring completely changed the feel of the room while still fitting naturally with the rest of the home.

I’m especially grateful to Kim and Pat for trusting Acute Solutions with their home. They were wonderful to work with from beginning to end, and seeing them genuinely happy with the finished kitchen made all the work worthwhile.

Every project like this is another reminder of how blessed I am to be able to do this for a living — building something with my hands, solving problems, working with good people, and leaving behind something I’m proud to put my name on.

Travertine is a whole different animal — and I like it.

Natural stone brings its own challenges, character, and personality to an installation, but there’s something pretty hard to beat about the finished product.

I love that these homeowners put me up to this one. The variation and warmth of the travertine plays beautifully with the light hardwood floors, WindsorONE trim, and the overall simplicity and sophistication of the home.

Powder room and laundry room set, grouted, sealed and wrapped up this week. Next week we carry it into one of the master bathrooms… and there’s a lot more happening in that room than just the floor. Stay tuned.

A little more challenging. A lot more character.

Three custom white oak floating vanities completed and installed.

These pieces were designed, fabricated, finished, and installed specifically for this project. Built from solid white oak, fitted with soft-close Blum hardware, and finished with Osmo hardwax oil to enhance the natural character of the wood while providing long-lasting protection.

Every component was carefully milled, assembled, sanded, and hand-fit to achieve clean lines, consistent reveals, and a modern floating appearance. From rough lumber in the shop to final installation on site, it’s always rewarding to see a project come together.

A sincere thank you to the homeowners for the opportunity and trust throughout the process. Looking forward to beginning the next phase soon.

Acute Solutions is looking for recommendations for a reputable sandblasting/media blasting service in the Michiana area.

I have a cast iron restoration project I’d like stripped to bare metal before refinishing and would appreciate any recommendations for shops you’ve had good experiences with.
