Tips for making the getting the most out of a Handyman Visit....
1. Time is money...
-Handyman work is a time and money saver. Most charge by the whole hour. So if the job you're paying for takes 30 min., then you should have another task or two ready to fill the hour. In the end, if you can have a few shelves hung in addition to having a faucet replaced why wouldn't you!
2. Be prepared...
-There are better ways to spend your money than having someone do things that you could do your self. Get the work area clean and accessible for them. The time you save them by doing this could give them enough time to complete another task.
3. Buy extra or let the Handyman buy them...
-If you wish to save money by purchasing the materials yourself and have the Handyman install or use them, make sure you buy extra. Every job is unique, and you never know exactly what may happen. Sometimes an additional piece is necessary, or a length changes because something else may need to be corrected. Extra materials means less trips to the store, which means you save time. A handyman will usually buy extra, just in case. (They are human too!)
4. Listen to the Handyman
-Most Handymen are familiar with the job and have done adequate research before. This would include not just how best to do the job, but how to do it right. Sometimes this will include additional work to ensure the job follows code. Code issues are usually safety issues, and safety/quality is worth a little more.
5. Follow the process..
-Handymen are Jacks of all Trades, and Masters of the Trouble Shooting processes. They know how to think on their feet, are super adaptable, and have ingenious solutions. The best handymen have done their research and will work through a troubleshooting process. Eliminating variables is the name of the game, and can be the biggest $ saver of all. Sometimes it's a small issue that causes a big problem. Let them work through the process.
