They may look similar, but they have two different jobs when it comes to keeping your pool clean and your system running smoothly.

🍂 Your skimmer basket catches leaves, bugs, and other floating debris before it travels through your plumbing.

🔧 Your pump basket is the next line of defense, catching debris that makes it past the skimmer before it reaches the pump and filter.

Both need to be checked and emptied regularly. When either basket gets too full, it can restrict water flow and make your pool equipment work harder than it needs to.

Once your pool is closed, don’t forget about the cover! Make a habit of gently clearing away leaves, sticks, and other debris throughout the season. Allowing it to pile up adds unnecessary weight and can make your cover’s job a whole lot harder.

A little bubbling from the jets is normal, but foam that sticks around can be a sign that something is off. Common culprits include lotions and body oils, detergent residue from swimsuits, unbalanced water, or a buildup of dissolved contaminants over time.

If your spa is looking a little too sudsy, start with a water test and make sure your chemistry is properly balanced. Cleaning or rinsing the filters may help, too. If the water has been in there for a while, it might simply be time for a drain and refill.
