The Japanese Beetle is an invasive insect that originates from... you guessed it! Japan! These little beetles are more of an aesthetic nuisance than an actual threat to your trees. However, they can skeletonize large amounts of foliage on a single tree, leaving it vulnerable to other forms of stress and problems. The repeated defoliation year after year will eventually take a toll on a tree and can lead to its decline. Defoliation is especially hard on juveline trees as they have smaller energy reserves.

There are both chemical and non-chemical options for treating trees for these pesky beetles! Call 715-797-5641 or look us up online at treesavvyllc.com for more information.

July can be a tough time for oak trees. We've noticed a particular increase in oak wilt diseased trees during this month. A typical oak wilt case begins with leaves turning brown and falling from the top of the canopy and spreading down to the rest of the tree.

It is rather difficult to treat a tree showing oak wilt symptoms as the vascular tissues are being plugged as a form of self preservation. The tree stops taking in water which is necessary to spread the fungicide treatment throughout the canopy. It is best to treat before symptoms appear. If you notice a neighboring property's oaks are dying, now is the time to protect your trees. Oak wilt spreads through root systems and red oaks are known for grafting with neighboring trees.

Tree Savvy can help you preserve your urban trees. Give us a call at 715-797-5641 or check us out online at treesavvyllc.com for more information!

This is your reminder to water your newly planted trees! It is ever so important to keep saplings hydrated during the hot and dry periods during the summer. Like your garden, trees need on average 1-2 inches of rain per week. A good way to gauge if your tree needs water is by sticking a finger an inch deep into the soil. If the soil is dry, your tree needs water!

Whether you are transplanting from a different property, buying from a trusted nursery, or going with Tree Savvy for tree planting, we are more than happy to help with any and all tree related questions! Give us a call at 715-797-5641. Happy weekend and stay cool!

American Elm Trees are few and far between these days due to Dutch Elm Disease (DED) caused by an invasive fungus. This fungal disease wiped out the majority of mature elms in the United States in the mid to late 1900s. Symptoms of DED include wilting or yellowing leaves during the summer and brown streaking on the sapwood behind decaying bark.

We can inject the rare healthy American Elm trees to continue combating Dutch Elm Disease. If you are concerned about the health of your tree, call Tree Savvy to schedule a meeting with our Plant Health Care Professionals or look us up online for more information.

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is still very prevalent in the Chippewa Valley Area. Luckily, we offer insecticides that will deter EAB from invading ash trees. If you have a healthy ash tree on your property that isn't being treated it is unfortunately only a matter of time before it succumbs to the EAB. Contact Tree Savvy if you have concerns with the health of your tree!

How a tree is structured matters for the health of the tree. The shape of the branch attachment can determine how likely that union is to fail.

U-shaped unions are stronger and less likely to fail than v-shaped unions. V-shaped have less trunk tissue to support the stem or branch and may have internal bark tissues inside the union pushing the stems apart.

If you notice v-shaped unions in the trees around your property, give us a call and we can recommend mitigation options to reduce storm damage and increase the overall health of the tree.
