Sometimes as an artsy mom you accidentally reveal a lot of niche interests.

I always loved Bratz as a girl so of course my daughter has a few. Eventually over the years, all of mine were given or thrown away. (Although I’ll awkwardly admit I held onto them MUCH longer than the rest of my peers.) I’m a sentimental person, so I thought I’d draw wall art of my daughter’s favorite/most special dolls. (Not all of them are Bratz.)

Just a cute little hobby in between other projects, so it’ll probably take me a long time to do them all!

PS. Trying to think up some art to make for my son, too, but his interests right now are things that aren’t quite my strong suit in art. (Cars, Transformers, Legos, etc.) It may take some time to build up the courage to do bigger pieces for him! Or hopefully I can find something he likes that’s closer to my comfort zone. 🤔

“February 9, 2024. The following issues were addressed: Anxiety associated with depression and PTSD.”

It’s been a while since that therapy appointment. The truth is that the hollow feelings, the fear and emptiness, the stress and irritability—most of it never completely dissipates. It’s easier to feel angry at yourself for struggling than it is to ask for help. It’s easier to shut the world out than to be vulnerable about your experiences.

I hope that being truthful about my own struggles makes me more compassionate and understanding towards others. That in understanding myself and my experiences better, I’m able to show greater grace to those around me.

What experiences have you had that have made you kinder? Have you ever had a moment when you suddenly realized you really never know what someone else has gone through? What drives you to meet others with compassion every day?

I’ve seen an artist or two make some slugs and snails using mixed finish varnishes. Then I saw a set of snail glassware plates online, and a little girl with a purse full of snails, and couldn’t resist the inspiration. 💛
