These photos showcase an emerging architectural finish known as Terrazzo Concreteāa system increasingly specified by architects seeking the aesthetics of terrazzo while preserving the performance and low life-cycle cost of polished concrete.
Conventional terrazzo is a resinous or cementitious topping installed over a concrete substrate. The system provides virtually unlimited color combinations and design flexibility through the use of metal divider strips and decorative aggregates.
Terrazzo Concrete, however, is not a topping system.
The architectural finish is achieved by engineering the concrete placement itself. Through specialized mix design, placement procedures, and advanced power-trowel finishing techniques, the slab develops a highly uniform aggregate distribution capable of producing a consistent Class C aggregate exposure after polishing.
