After 100 years of serving the Edwardsville area by designing, selling and servicing beautiful kitchens, it is with a mixture of sadness and deep gratitude that we announce the closing of Kitchenland at the end of this year, 2025. This decision comes not lightly, nor without a thousand memories echoing through our minds and the sense of pride that comes from serving our wonderful community generation after generation.

Our business began as Edwardsville Lumber Company when “Jake” Jacoby and partners incorporated the Company on October 22, 1925. My grandfather, Victor Mueller, started as an employee, and worked to eventually own the business. Through his hard work and commitment, the lumberyard thrived as Edwardsville grew. Through waves of change—wars, economic up and downturns, technological revolutions—we adapted, grew, and prospered along with the community.

Victor’s work ethic was inherited by his son, Richard, who had a different vision for the business, and in the 1960’s he phased out the lumberyard to create Kitchenland and changed the focus entirely to designing and selling beautiful custom kitchens.
No longer would plain Birch plywood cabinets be the standard and choices limited by small cabinet builders. Many different wood species and endless door styles and colors to choose from became the new standard. Customers wanted kitchens to be not just functional, but beautiful as well. Kitchen Designers were needed for the first time. Kitchenland provided that needed service for our area with some of the best designers and quality cabinet lines like Schmidt Cabinet Company.

To our loyal customers, Thank you. You have been the lifeblood of our business and the reason we were able to last through 4 generations. Many of you became lifelong friends. For each time you chose to come through our doors, whether for a simple purchase or a conversation, we thank you, truly. The relationships we have formed are the greatest treasures we take with us.

Though our storefront will darken, our commitment to our neighbors and friends will not waver. We will continue to service what we have sold after we close our doors. The website, kitchen-land.com, will change to reflect this. Ron and Matt will continue to provide the service our customers have learned to expect.

To everyone who has played a role in our business—customers, employees, partners, vendors, and friends—we extend our deepest thanks. You have helped us build something lasting and meaningful, far beyond what we could have imagined when our great-grandpa first opened the doors so many years ago.

With heartfelt thanks,
The Richard Mueller Family and Employees of Kitchenland

Eberhart Signs just put up our repaired sign so we are no longer "Itchenland" and the sale on Benadryl is done. Back to selling cabinets. 😆

The damage was more than just the "K" though, as the "I" fell off a couple days later, and we felt it was a bad idea to have letters remaining that might fall at the next big wind. Eberhart came and took down all the letters, re-edged them, glued the broken parts and reinforced the entire set of letters. It looks like a totally new sign again. Great job and Thank You!

If you ever need sign work done, I cannot recommend Eberhart enough. A genuine pleasure to do business with and they got us fixed up swiftly.

I hope you-all made it through the hail storm last night without much damage or injury. We got a decent pounding, but nothing like the soft ball sized stuff that hit around the area.

We were blessed and just lost the "K" off our sign. So until we get it repaired, "Itchenland" will be offering 10% off all Benadryl, Prednisone and other anti-itching meds while they last... 😆

This was a first for me after 45 years in the cabinet business. We have done many bookcases, entertainment centers, hutches, buffets and other furniture with our "kitchen" cabinet lines.

But I'd never done a rolling ladder to access the upper levels before, so I did not even know what I did not know yet, heh. It turned out wonderful. A truly unique piece of furniture that seems to be just what our customer was looking for.

They get all the credit for the design, I just drew pictures and tried to make her dream reality. I think we succeeded and she is happy with the final results.

This is a rewarding aspect of this job, creating beautiful enduring pieces of furniture and kitchens that will outlast me.

How nice! I just received word we won in the Kitchen Remodeling category of the "Best of Edwardsville Award" this year!

Thank you Very Much if you voted for us, or even if you just like us and are customers. I give all the credit to Lisa Costin my designer and Matt Mueller, head of shipping. I get compliments on them a lot from people. (No one ever compliments the bookkeeper, so my feeling are not hurt) :D

A good customer brought in a drawer head from their utility room that got pretty messed up when a pedestal washer tipped over and smashed the drawer head. I'm thinking it was Butterscotch Cherry South Charleston Schmidt cabinets. The Schmidt cabinets which I can no longer get replacements for. :(

So I did my best repair job using old Schmidt moldings and pieces we have in our odds & ends warehouse. While far from perfect, I think this repair just might work.
