Great Plains Construction Great Plains Construction (GPC) was founded in 2007 by Brannon Ward in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A diversified service company headquartered in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Since its inception, the company has grown from two employees and a backhoe to over 50 employees and a large fleet of heavy earthwork equipment. Great Plains Construction strives to perform top quality work at competitive prices to customers in many different fields of construction. Great Plains performs work in the entire state of Oklahoma as well as regionally in Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, and Arkansas. Our company provides services to our customers through civil and industrial construction.

Not every problem with dirt means the dirt has to go.

Soil stabilization is an important part of our earthwork scope because it allows us to improve subgrade conditions and increase the bearing capacity of on-site soils.

Depending on the conditions and project requirements, stabilization can turn existing material into a stronger, more workable subgrade capable of supporting what comes next.

That can mean less unsuitable material to remove, less replacement material to haul in, and a better-performing base for the project.

Sometimes good earthwork isn't about moving more dirt.

It's about improving the dirt that's already there.

Good operators know their machines. Good mechanics know how to keep them running.

But the best results happen when the two work together.

Our operators are the ones spending hours in the seat, so they're often the first to notice when something sounds, feels or operates differently. That communication gives our mechanics a head start on finding the problem, making the repair and getting the machine back to work.

It keeps our equipment in better shape, helps prevent bigger problems and keeps our jobs moving.

Two different jobs. Same team.

14,800+ dump truck loads.

That's how much material GPC exported from just five acres during our work on the Innovation District in Oklahoma City.

Our scope included excavation for the future parking garage and building, along with perimeter grading for roads, sidewalks and the building pad.

Once the excavation was complete, approximately 230 semi loads of aggregate went back into the site.

Five acres may not sound enormous, but the numbers tell a different story.

An inch doesn’t sound like much. Until you’re grading across acres of a jobsite.

A small elevation discrepancy in one spot might not look like a problem. Carry that discrepancy across an entire site, though, and things start adding up quickly.

Grades affect where water flows. They affect how much material needs to be cut, filled, hauled, placed and compacted. They affect paving, curb elevations, building pads and how different areas of the project tie together.

And the larger the site, the more opportunities there are for a small miss in one area to create a much bigger problem somewhere else.

That’s why precision matters in dirt work.

We’re moving thousands of cubic yards of material, but the inches still matter.

You might know it as OAK.

We remember it looking a little more like this.

Long before the restaurants, shops, apartments and people fill the sidewalks, these projects all start as a jobsite, and GPC had the opportunity to be part of the work that helped this development there.

That's one of the interesting things about working in construction. Eventually, the equipment leaves, the fences come down and the place you knew as a jobsite becomes part of the community.

Now that OAK has been open for a while and we get to see people enjoying it every day, it's a whole different kind of experience.

Hard workers wanted.

We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about how to join the GPC team, so we figured we’d make it easy.

We do heavy civil and turnkey sitework, which means our crews are involved in everything from clearing and excavation to grading, utilities and getting sites ready for whatever comes next.

It’s big equipment, big projects and plenty of Oklahoma dirt.

But more than anything, we’re looking for good people who aren’t afraid to work hard, learn, show up for their crew and take pride in doing the job right.

Meet the Team: Jessica Stone

Jessica is our Administrative Manager and one of the people helping keep things organized and moving behind the scenes at GPC.

She's originally from Stillwater, and when she's not keeping us all in line at the office, she's probably hanging out with Cash, her Australian Shepherd. (Yes, we included his picture. Obviously.)

A big part of good sitework is making sure the crews coming behind you can get straight to work.

Elevations need to be right. Subgrade needs to be ready. Utilities need to be where they’re supposed to be. Drainage needs to work.

Because fixing something now is a whole lot easier than fixing it after concrete starts going down.
