⚠️ HOMEOWNERS — PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHO YOU HIRE AFTER THE STORM. ⚠️
With the amount of trees and limbs down after last night’s storms, there are going to be plenty of people with chainsaws offering to clean things up. Before you hire anyone, ask for proof of insurance and make sure their policy actually covers TREE CARE. A landscaper, handyman, or general contractor having liability insurance does not automatically mean they are properly covered for hazardous tree removal.
📸 Before cleanup begins, take plenty of pictures and videos of the damage — the tree, where it failed, damage to your home/property, and the surrounding area. If you believe you may have an insurance claim, contact your insurance company and document everything before work starts whenever it is safe to do so.
When possible, hire a professional who is willing to document the loss, provide proper invoices/estimates, and work with you through the insurance claim process instead of immediately expecting you to pull thousands of dollars out of your pocket.
Storm-damaged trees can be extremely unpredictable. Hanging limbs, split trunks, uprooted root systems and trees resting on structures are not the time to gamble on the cheapest guy with a saw.
