Been a couple years since returning to a customers property for a dead tree removal to keep their neighbors safe. After starting that work, we discovered this hazardous tree leaning directly over the house. Scheduled emergency removal for the next day. Could have been disastrous. Fun little project on a beautiful day. Bummer this Hickory failed and had to go. This tree was planted in 1947 on community property by the adjacent homeowner. He told me the story of his aunt carrying it in a long car ride from Missouri when he was a small child.

Proper pruning and care could have prevented this stem failure. But hey, it had a great run.

Lion Tailing (or gutting) can have significant negative consequences for a tree. 🌳 It distributes the weight unevenly on the ends of branches, removes too many leaves, overexposes bark to the sun, and causes stress responses like epicormic sprouting.

Working with our customers in this beautiful neighborhood to correct these root issues after being improperly planted years ago and over mulched year after year. These conditions killed the tree in this video and we want to showcase what many do not see below those “mulch volcanoes”. Unfortunately, we see this often, good news is, it can be corrected if action is taken early on. If you suspect this is the case with one of your trees, please give us a call.

We saved this tree from removal yesterday by doing some root pruning using an Airspade. Being able to safely work around utilities is a big advantage of this tool as well as exposing the root system without harming the tree. Focusing on plant health care and tree preservation will save you $$ and better protect our environment. Contact us for alternative options and consultation for your trees!
