Several years ago we were invited to a seminar put on by Schluter-Systems North America and learned the advantages of using the Kerdi system for our shower and tub surrounds. Along with the warranty, this system resolved several recurring issues from the older out dated system of pre-pitching the concrete, installing the rubber shower pan, and installing Durarock. As you can see in the alcove type shower the Kerdi fabric can be installed directly over the Drywall substrate and Kerdi shower pan and eliminates any folded corners from the rubber shower pan, as well as gives us a consistent pre-pitched shower pan to install our tile onto.

The recurring issues we faced in these types of showers was the rubber shower pan required folded corner that created a bump at the bottom, to resolve that we had to shim out the Durarock so we had a plumb wall to set tile to. To create the shower pan we had to build a curb of pressure treated 2x4 materials, pour cement or shower floor mud and pitch the slope to the drain prior to the rubber shower pan being installed. After being inspected we could finally install the Durarock and roll a rubber membrane for waterproofing to complete the shower system. This out dated system required much more time and materials as well as multiple trips.

The Kerdi shower system not only saves us time but gives us a better finished product and carries a warranty.

We did some small framing in the condo project, the client wanted to delete the existing whirlpool bath tub, and add a space for a dresser, and also wanted a knee wall to create a little bit of privacy around the commode.

We expanded the existing shower and used the .usa from South Daytona, Florida to center the drain while allowing us to keep the curb as low as possible.

The electrical plan included us changing the shower light to a lighted vent fan, swapping the light over the commode to a lighted vent fan, separating the single vanity light into 2 vanity light, and adding several 6" recess LED lights for general lighting.

The plumbing plan called for us to install new from shower and diverter valves, as well as plumbing for handhelds in each shower.

Here a few post demolition photos of phase 1 of the condo renovation. You never really know what to expect until this moment. This is when we find the hidden damage, and work that has been done through the years.

Florida building code requires us to fix or replace any out of code issues once they are uncovered. In the master bathroom we uncovered Romex wire run going through a cabinet which should have been shielded. We also uncovered one of the master bathroom sinks plumbing drain was not pitched towards the main drain stack.

Here are some before pictures of a condominium renovation we are finishing the 1st phase of. Since the client is living in the home we felt it was best to work on the master and office bathrooms as the 1st phase since the client was concerned the existing shower pans were leaking.

I just received an email in regards to an Excutive order (see below) for certain counties in Florida in regards to roof replacement and repair, as well as roofing inspections, adjusting, and insurance claim on behalf of the owner.

As a Certified Building Contractor I can not say this enough. Please do your research on whom you are hiring. Ask for their license number, and know the difference between the trades. Contractors will be a CGC (General Contractor), CBC ( Building Contractor), or CRC (Residential Contractor) this emergency order authorizes them make roof repairs and replacements.

CCC are Roofing Contractors.
CFC are plumbing and gas
EC are Electrical
CAC are HVAC (air conditioning)

It is state law that a Contractor must advertise their license number.

In order to do business Contractors are required to have minimum liability insurance coverages.

There are many "Contractors" that you will come across especially right now that do not have any of these licenses. I have nothing against any of them however they are not legally allowed to permit any work, they legally can not do Roofing, Plumbing, Electrical, Gas, or HVAC. Many will use their Business Tax receipt (Business Liscense) for whatever city they are registered with as a business. This is not a Contractors license! Many have insurance that covers only work that does not require a license or permit (drywall, paint, trim, etc...)

In the end your safest choice as a homeowner is to hire state or county licensed contractors for any work that requires a permit.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
