Yes that’d be ratchet straps holding the wish bone portion of the tree together.
This one took at lot of additional rope and systems to supplement structural integrity, but all in all went quite smoothly and was able to get out a snag a video of a pretty rad and controlled tip tie.

The notch vest was probably the one of my best purchases!
Not only does it have a spot for a hydro pack, it also has a rad pocket you can place your phone and get sweet shots of dead poplars exploding.😎

Ya know after doing this for as long as I have I really started to see the difference between certain climbers and how willing they are to climb as high as reasonably possible.
Climbing high in both removals and pruning/maintenance really seem to have a hand full of positive benefits.
What do you think?

Another huge sketchy Cottonwood, shocker!
This trees trunk was a severely compromised at the bottom leaving me little to no available meat for a back cut! I made an extremely small notch favoring the lean, but was worried that while cutting the notch the tree might prematurely fall. After the notch was in a went to one side to start nibbling at what was left of the back of the tree. After cutting into the back just a few inches or so my worker waved at me as it was going!

Always a better feeling when you get to rig off a lead you’re not connected to!
I find it pretty cool how each tree has its unique challenges and difficulties, whether that is rigging scenarios, or compromised wood quality there’s never a day you don’t learn something new!

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve said let gravity do the work I’d no longer have to cut trees everyday.
In this scenario I am negative rigging large sections of the trunk to the back of my truck bed with an additional directional line. (Aka speed rigging) This system requires a bit more set up before and after each cut, but can ultimately save you a lot of heavy lifting on the ground and somewhat act as a safety net for the primary rigging system.
