Ya know after doing this for as long as I have I really started to see the difference between certain climbers and how willing they are to climb as high as reasonably possible.
Climbing high in both removals and pruning/maintenance really seem to have a hand full of positive benefits.

Another huge sketchy Cottonwood, shocker!
This trees trunk was a severely compromised at the bottom leaving me little to no available meat for a back cut! I made an extremely small notch favoring the lean, but was worried that while cutting the notch the tree might prematurely fall. After the notch was in a went to one side to start nibbling at what was left of the back of the tree. After cutting into the back just a few inches or so my worker waved at me as it was going!

Always a better feeling when you get to rig off a lead you’re not connected to!
I find it pretty cool how each tree has its unique challenges and difficulties, whether that is rigging scenarios, or compromised wood quality there’s never a day you don’t learn something new!

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve said let gravity do the work I’d no longer have to cut trees everyday.
In this scenario I am negative rigging large sections of the trunk to the back of my truck bed with an additional directional line. (Aka speed rigging) This system requires a bit more set up before and after each cut, but can ultimately save you a lot of heavy lifting on the ground and somewhat act as a safety net for the primary rigging system.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start and where to end during complex removals! This is where opening up certain corridors is key to getting material down safe and smooth. I Find that starting the part of the tree closest to my chipper always seems to be the ticket for making room for what’s to come down next, but also allows you to see what other rigging systems and stems you can utilize moving forward.
Moral is set yourself up for success, always take the time to get you climb line and rigging as high as possible to make for easy maneuvering as well as good clearance for letting the system run or clear obstructions.
Load sharing is the ticket to safety and security both climbing or rigging don’t forget it!

As an Arborist it’s always been a tricky decision to dump trees when possible or to climb them to reduce risk and damage to the yard/property. In fact sometimes seems faster to climb and throw limbs on tarps then if would be to dump a dead tree that’s not only going to stick into the ground, but will also explode on impact.

Ya know I once heard from a tree climbing mentor of mine say, “you’re only as good as your groundy”.
Over the last several years that quote runs through my head rent free. Not only is it true, but it is essential for safe quality work!
Hats off to ㅤㅤㅤ for being our boots on the ground🫡

Doing a thorough prune on old growth trees is no simple task! It usually involves hundreds if not thousands of hand saw cuts. Not to mention the climbing that is involved!
The reason we prioritize hand saw cuts over chainsaw cuts is because the hand saw has much finer teeth than a chainsaw. Which makes a much smoother more precise cut which longterm also helps the tree heal faster and fend off things that could pe*****te the freshly cut wound.
However there is a point in which diameter overthrows the reason to wear yourself out to death.
When switching to a chain saw it is very important to have a sharp good running saw to make finish cuts that will tell the story on down the road!
Happy cutting🫡

In my early years trying to become a tree climber and more importantly my own boss. I started to realize how important it is to do exactly as you say. Clients want nothing more than clean, reliable, respectful and down right honest when doing the work or writing the bid.
Moral is don’t waste yours or the potential clients time with empty promises and poor communication!
