On National Arbor Day, April 24th 2026, we participated in a volunteer opportunity with Shelby Township, MI. It was truly an honor!
The Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center installed a new native tree arboretum to create critical pollinator habitat and food sources for wildlife.
A special highlight of the day was the planting of a rare sycamore “moon tree”, grown from seeds that traveled around the moon during Apollo 14, a powerful symbol connecting our local roots to American innovation and exploration.
This new planting also establishes an official arboretum at Shadbush, part of Shelby Township’s America 250 celebration, honoring our past while investing in generations to come.
Our own Nathan Brown gave the kick off instructions on how to properly plant a tree! It was a fun day and we met a lot of great people! This was truly a unique experience and a wonderful thing to have been a part of.
