On Friday, October 9, some of our district staff members along with Smokey Bear joined with other municipal, county, and federal first responders at Dingman-Delaware Primary School in Pike County. Students were able to learn about wildland firefighting equipment, see an engine and a ranger vehicle, and they had an opportunity to meet our favorite wildfire prevention ambassador, Smokey!

It's time for your Week 2 Fall Foliage Report! 🍂🍁

While autumn colors continue to spread across much of the Commonwealth, recent cold nights have helped fall colors reach their peak in the north. Bright, colorful leaves are now easy to spot in most Pennsylvania forests.

The best places to enjoy the season right now are the northern counties, the northern Poconos, and the Laurel Highlands.

Did you know that DCNR assists with wildland fires in other states? Since 1973 Pennsylvania has sent resources to help with fires and other incidents to over a dozen states. Some are on the front lines as a part of a hand crew or with an engine, while others fill roles in logistics, dispatch, record keeping, and public information. Several members of our district staff were among those that were dispatched this past summer. Not only do these assignments help ease the strain on other state and federal resources, but the experience gained by our staff members is frequently put to good use when large incidents occur in the Commonwealth.

Expanding access to the outdoors!

Smokey Bear and some of our District Staff attended the Polk Township Environmental Day on Sunday October 4. Visitors had opportunities to meet our wonderful wildfire prevention bruin as well as discuss other natural resource matters with or human staff.
