Portable generators produce carbon monoxide—a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly.

Protect your household:

• Use generators outdoors only.
• Keep them at least 20 feet from doors, windows, and vents.
• Never operate a generator inside a home, basement, garage, shed, or other enclosed space.
• Use working battery-powered or battery-backup carbon monoxide alarms.
• Turn the generator off and allow it to cool before refueling.

If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, move everyone outside immediately and call 911.
