Norroa by GreenLight Bio Norroa delivers science-backed varroa mite control to help beekeepers protect honey bee colonies.

Their foraging behavior is one of the things that makes them such effective agricultural pollinators. Honey bees tend to visit large groups of the same type of flower again and again, making agricultural landscapes with abundant forage especially valuable.

And it’s another reminder of how connected healthy forage, pollinators and agriculture really are.

This year’s World Food Day theme, “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.” looks toward the future of agriculture and the continued learning, adaptation and innovation it will take to support it.

Today, we’re celebrating the people, pollinators and places that are all part of that bigger picture.

Before you even open the hive, there's a lot you can learn just by watching the entrance. 👀🐝

Guard bees help protect the colony by checking the bees that approach and determining who belongs and who doesn't. They're watching for bees that may be after the colony's resources, yellow jackets and other unwanted visitors.

But there's an interesting exception. A bee from another colony may sometimes be accepted if it arrives with resources to contribute, which is one way drifting between colonies can occur.

Next time you approach a hive, take a minute to watch the entrance before you open it. You may notice more than you expect.

Sometimes you can learn something about a colony without even opening the hive. 🐝

One quick check Eric uses heading into winter is the heft test.

By lifting from the back of the hive, beekeepers can get a general sense of its weight and whether a colony may be lighter on stores than expected.

In Asheville, Eric shows us the difference between a lighter colony and one that feels better positioned heading into winter.

A heft test isn’t the whole picture, but it’s another useful piece of information when evaluating your colonies this fall.

Today, we’re celebrating the people who keep agriculture moving.

Across farms, fields and bee yards, there are people showing up every day to do the work, make the decisions and care for what comes next.

Beekeepers are an important part of that community. Whether you manage a few colonies or thousands, your work, knowledge and commitment matter season after season.

Here’s to the farmers and beekeepers who make it all possible. Happy National Farmers Day from Norroa. 🐝

A little honey left behind can be hard for a honeybee to resist. 👀🐝

After extraction, wet frames still contain traces of honey, and bees are quick to find them and clean them up. It's a great example of just how resourceful honeybees can be.

But that same instinct is also why beekeepers need to keep an eye on weaker colonies. When resources are easier to take than forage for, other bees may try to rob a colony that can't adequately defend itself.

Especially this time of year, pay attention to colony strength and consider tools like an entrance reducer when a colony needs a little extra help protecting its resources.

**Know what you're seeing. Protect what they've stored.**

The eviction notices are going out. 🐝

As colonies begin preparing for the colder months ahead, you may start noticing drones getting shown the door.

While we were filming in Asheville, we caught workers kicking drones out of the hive.

Adam explains what’s happening and why this behavior is one of the signs that a colony is shifting with the season.
