On the Blog: How to Make a Hypertufa Planter, by Marcia Kirinus, NC State Extension Master Gardener volunteer

Hypertufa is a lightweight, manmade, frost-resistant material that is molded to make outdoor planting vessels, garden art, and even outdoor pizza ovens given its high heat tolerance. You can make it yourself! Hypertufa ingredients are typically portland cement, peat moss (or coco fiber), perlite (or vermiculite), and water.

Marcia Kirinus offers detailed instructions on creating hypertufa, illustrated with photographs, in the latest edition of our blog. Looks like fun!

On the blog: " I Started A Flower Farm" by Marcia Kirinus, EMGV

Ever wonder what it would be like to start a flower farm in your backyard? Durham gardener Marcia Kirinus shares her experience (a Master Gardener training project), from planning her garden to starting seedlings indoors under lights, to dealing with expenses and challenges.
