ALWAYS quarantine new plants before introducing them to the rest of your collection. Spider mites and other pests can take down even the largest of collections rapidly. And be especially careful when shopping at the big box stores !!

Have you ever found yourself walking through your local nursery for the fifth time in a week and got distracted by the eye catching, one-of-a-kind plant in the bunch? It has all these different colors and patterns that just makes that plant special and unique. It’s a trait in plants called variegation!
Variegation is exhibited in tons of houseplant species everywhere. Each plant is incomparable in their own variegations. These variegations occur as a genetic mutation that impairs chlorophyll establishment in the plant itself. This results in plants producing leaves in multiple different colors, including white/cream, red, and pink!! 🌈
Unfortunately, there’s a downside: plants that are highly variegated lack chlorophyll (which is represented by the green present in the plant). This results in photosynthesis impairment and without photosynthesis, plant growth is further diminished. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a healthy, highly variegated plant, though! As long as you are offering your plant ample bright, indirect light, chlorophyll production will not be placed into overdrive and shock, and you will have a highly variegated, healthy, and happy plant! ☀️
Pay close attention as your plant grows. The production of addition variegated leaves means that your plant is receiving the care it needs and is thanking you by continuing to grow beautifully. Stunted growth + no variegation = unhappy.
Growth + no variegation = unhappy, and you’ll need to cut off this leaf immediately, as this will cause the plant to “revert,” or lose its variegation completely.
Some of my variegated babies with their names are in this post 🙂 happy growing!! 🌱

I got these two philodendron pink princesses from the NC State farmers market, $25 each. Both of them had long, stalky vines and were ready to be chopped and propped. I basically got at least 12 pink princesses for $50 with chopping and propping. I made sure to make educated cuts around the nodes and placed the nodes into a rooting hormone before planting in a chunky house-plant mix, watering with spring water, and placing the cuttings under a grow light with ample humidity.
Pink Princess philodendrons increase in variegation as they are propagated. The grow lights will aid in enhancing the variegations as well (more light = more variegation). I’m crossing my fingers for some poppin’ pink leaves as my cuttings grow into new plants 💕

One of my favorite places for house plants in the warmer months! This past week, only two houseplant vendors remained compared to the 10+ from the beginning of the season, due to the heat. But the selection was still on point 🤌🏻 I indulged a little too much.

Hey y'all 😎
I absolutely love indoor plants. They're beautiful, they're therapeutic, and, most importantly, they let me garden without being slow-roasted every time I step outside. 🌞
I'll be hanging out at the Acorn Center in Littleton, NC for Freedom Fest 2026 at Lake Gaston Pawvisions booth, and I've got a whole lineup of new plants, cute planters, grow lights, watering cans, and other goodies that your windowsills have been whispering about.
Whether you're looking for your very first plant or you're already explaining to your family that "there's always room for one more," I've got you covered.
It's also my greatest honor to be the reason your significant other sighs, checks the bank app, and says, "Seriously... another plant?" 💚
See y'all soon! Come buy a plant. Or five. I promise they're easier to justify than another Stanley cup. 🌱

Let’s talk about marantas 🌱✨

This beautiful houseplant is known for its striking, vibrant foliage and one very cool feature—at night, its leaves fold together as if they're praying. That’s how it earned the nickname "prayer plant."

Marantas can be a little dramatic. They prefer high humidity, consistently moist (but never soggy) soil, and bright, indirect light. Because of their specific care requirements, they’re often considered one of the more challenging houseplants to keep happy. I’ve killed a few myself 👍🏻

One of my favorite things about marantas is that they’re pet-friendly! That means your curious cat or adventurous dog won't be harmed if they decide to take a nibble. Although, if you want the plant to survive, you might still want to keep it out of reach.

If your maranta is being extra stubborn, try lightly misting it to boost humidity. Also remember that cooler temperatures slow down water evaporation, which means the soil stays wet longer. Keep that in mind when watering, as root rot and leaf issues are common problems with high-maintenance plants like marantas.
