4 years! It's taken me 4 years! Dozens of milkweed planted on the property, hundreds grown and sold. 5 different milkweed species. But today I found my first monarch caterpillars! About half a dozen, couldn't see well, it's getting dark.
I kept telling myself that they didn't want to stop at the gas station (my property) for a snack when the all you can eat buffet (Brumley preserve) was a mile away. Well they stopped!
Also, shout out to all the other caterpillars, you're not any less important. Tons of Sulfur(RIP to the senna in my nursery), fall webworm, and Sawflies this year. Many spicebush swallow tails, Red Hu**ed Caterpillars, Tupelo Leaf Folders, Yellow Necked Caterpillars, Pawpaw Sphinx, copper underwings, geometers, and all the others I've seen here over the years. Thank you and you're welcome!
