Arbor Wood Co. Arbor Wood Co. is a US producer of thermally modified wood siding, decking, and dimensional lumber
(1)

Produced from the abundant North Central forests of the USA, Arbor Wood Co. (AWCo) offers innovative thermally modified timber for a variety of outdoor and indoor applications from housing installations to decorative fixtures and product components. AWCo Thermally Modified Timber (TMT) joins together sustainably harvested wood, and a value added heat modification process, to bring finished TMT goods to a variety of markets and uses. Thermal Modification is a process that replaces the use of chemicals to enhance an inapt wood species performance with heat and steam so it is suitable for a multitude of applications indoors and out. The high heat modifies the cell structure of the wood and makes it highly resistant to rot while greatly reducing expansion and contraction. Through multiple cook temperatures a range of color options within a single species can be achieved without the use of stains. Aesthetically the wood is darkened in color and it brings an unexpected tropical look to more commonly lighter indigenous wood species. Since Thermally Modified wood does not absorb or hold moisture as it would prior to treatment, species that typically do not perform well in outdoor or wet environments can now be used as decking or siding.

Made here. Built for what’s next. 🇺🇸

At Arbor Wood Co., we believe sustainability starts long before our thermally modified wood reaches a project.

Our timber is responsibly sourced in the USA, and our thermally modified wood is produced here as well. That means a shorter, more resilient supply chain—while supporting American forestry, American jobs, and American manufacturing.

For architects, builders, and designers, domestic production also means greater control, more predictable procurement, and confidence in the quality and consistency of the material.

Because sustainable building materials should do more than perform beautifully. They should make sense from sourcing to installation. Read more about why U.S. manufacturing matters at the link in our bio.

Thermally modified wood may have deep roots in Europe, but its future is global.

Arbor Wood Co. is proud to be the first and only U.S. member of the International ThermoWood Association (ITWA). As an American producer of thermally modified wood, we’re bringing a distinctly American perspective to an international community focused on quality, performance, innovation, and the continued advancement of the industry.

American manufacturing. Global collaboration.

Designed around outdoor living. The Whitfield Road House in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, makes the outdoors part of everyday life. Terraces extend from bedrooms, offices, and living spaces, while a screened porch connects multiple levels of the home and becomes a natural gathering space throughout the year.
Arbor Wood Co. ThermoWood® brings warmth, texture, and continuity to the architecture. From cladding, soffits, and screening, natural wood helps blur the line between inside and out, reinforcing the home’s connection to its landscape.

A home built not simply with outdoor spaces, but around them. See full project at the link in our bio.

We’re investing in the future of thermally modified wood.🪵

Arbor Wood Co. has announced an agreement with Jartek to add a second Jartek thermal modification kiln at our St. Joe, Indiana manufacturing facility—bringing our total kiln fleet to four. This expansion means more than increased capacity. It strengthens our ability to deliver high-performing, domestically manufactured ThermoWood® products with the consistency, quality, and technical expertise our customers expect.

As demand for natural materials that combine beauty with durability, dimensional stability, and long-term performance continues to grow, we’re continuing to invest in the technology and infrastructure needed to serve the North American market.

The future of thermally modified wood is being built here in the U.S. 🇺🇸
