This homeowner in Cloquet, MN reached out after dealing with recurring sewer backups.

Once we inspected the line, we found a few things working against them:

❗️The original 6-inch clay sewer pipe had deteriorated over time.
❗️Roots had worked their way into the line.
❗️And at some point in the past, a section of the pipe had been replaced with a smaller 4-inch pipe, creating a restriction that was contributing to the backups.

We looked at both trenchless lining and pipe bursting. Lining would have cost less, but it also would have left that restriction in place because the liner follows the shape of the existing pipe.

So instead, we recommended replacing the entire sewer service using trenchless pipe bursting.

Now the homeowner has a new continuous HDPE sewer line, no restriction, no root intrusion, and a long-term solution, all with minimal excavation.

Before you buy a home, make sure you know what's happening underground.

A sewer camera inspection (also called a sewer scope) lets us inspect the sewer line from the house to the city main. We check the pipe's condition, size, and material while looking for hidden issues like tree roots, cracked pipes, separated joints, sagging sections, or collapsed lines.

Catching these problems before closing can help you avoid unexpected sewer repair costs after moving in.

Why one contractor is better than three

On many projects, we handle more than just excavation.

We excavate the foundation, install underground utilities, connect city water and sewer, and coordinate the work from start to finish.

Could several contractors do those jobs separately? Absolutely!

But we've found that when one experienced team handles more of the project, communication is simpler, scheduling is easier, and there's less room for mistakes.
Instead of wondering who's responsible for what, everyone knows exactly who's handling the work.

That's one of the reasons many builders continue to work with us year after year.

Not every excavation company does the same work.

Some focus on clearing land. Some build gravel roads. Some only dig foundations.

Our work is different.

We specialize in diagnosing and repairing main sewer and water lines using the solution that makes the most sense for each property. Sometimes, trenchless pipe lining, pipe bursting, or a targeted point repair is all that's needed.

Every project starts the same way - with understanding exactly what's happening underground before recommending a solution.

It's what we do best, and it's where our experience makes the biggest difference 😎

Showing our equipment in action with a trenchless sewer line installation! That crunch you're hearing is the old service line being broken apart by the bursting head. Attached behind that is a new HDPE pipe, ready to be hooked up as soon as it's through!

🚩Don't ignore these sewer warning signs.

If you've had your sewer line cleaned two or three times, it's probably time to ask the question "Why does this keep happening?"

One thing we've seen over and over is homeowners spending money on repeated cleanings, only to find out later the pipe itself was failing…

If we catch it early enough, trenchless lining may still be an option. Don't wait until a small problem becomes a major project.

Schedule your FREE sewer camera inspection through the link in our bio and find out what's really happening underground.

“We thought it was going to be so much worse.” That’s something we hear pretty often.

By the time many homeowners call Contour, they’ve already had the same sewer line cleaned two or three times. The clog keeps coming back, and now they’re expecting the worst:

A $25,000 yard excavation. Weeks of disruption. And a huge repair bill…
But sometimes, there’s a better way.

We take the time to inspect the sewer line, explain what’s actually going on, and walk you through your options. In many cases, trenchless sewer repair can restore the line for significantly less than traditional excavation without digging up the entire yard!

And the best compliments we can hear is: “I thought it was going to be so much worse.” 😎
