At Palko Construction LLC, our roofing work is handled through 4/12 Roofing LLC — our dedicated roofing division. Same commitment to quality, same attention to detail, and the construction experience to handle much more than just what’s visible on the surface.
This recent project is a great example of why replacing a roof sometimes involves a lot more than simply tearing off old shingles and putting new ones down.
During our initial inspection, we identified damaged shingles throughout the roof along with shingles that failed a brittle test, making a proper repair unrealistic.
Once tear-off began, we discovered additional issues underneath. The existing roof deck had soft areas, loose nailing surfaces and excessive gaps in the original larch board sheathing. Rather than installing a new roofing system over a questionable substrate, we re-sheeted the entire main roof with 1/2” OSB, providing a solid and continuous nailing surface.
The back porch presented an even bigger challenge.
Shingles had previously been installed over an approximately 2/12 pitch roof. Over time, wind-driven rain had worked its way into the structure, causing extensive deterioration to the roof decking, overhang and adjoining exterior wall.
Once the damaged wall was opened, we uncovered extensive termite damage around the window and surrounding framing.

We weren’t limited to simply putting the roof back together. We removed the compromised and infested material, treated the affected area, completely reframed the window opening, replaced the damaged wall components and rebuilt the area back to its pre-existing condition.
The damaged porch structure was repaired and the previous shingles were replaced with a roofing system designed for the low-slope application.
Finally, the home received its completely new roofing system—and the finished product speaks for itself.
What you don’t see underneath a roof is every bit as important as what you do see when it’s finished. We don’t believe in covering up problems just because they’ll disappear beneath new material. When we uncover an issue, we show the homeowner, explain the problem and correct it properly.
