RTH Mechanical Contractors Inc is seeking a full-time Field Engineer with solid Mechanical Construction experience. We are a federal and commercial contractor with an outstanding reputation for working safely and providing quality workmanship for over 35 years. This position will be based at one of our project sites at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME.

Responsibilities include:
• Review construction drawings and compile project scope and quantities
• Inspect equipment and technologies
• Monitor field construction, and ensure compliance with construction plans and specifications
• Communicate with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers and field crew to determine needs and explain complex issues
• Conduct research and studies on site
• Manage field activities and implement engineering designs
• Diagnose construction or machinery problems; resolve onsite malfunctions
• Track construction progress and update status weekly
• Oversee repairs and technical improvements
• Install new systems and technology
• Inspect and test material and machinery for safety
• Ensure proper maintenance of onsite equipment
• Supervise and direct onsite crew (plumbers, pipefitters, sheet metal workers, insulators & controls)
• Organize project records in an effective document control system; draft and submit reports
We are looking for a field engineer to inspect infrastructure and conduct research on site in order to solve problems quickly.
Requirements:
For this job, you need to have mechanical/plumbing experience, specifically:
• HVAC refrigerant systems
• Chilled water systems
• Heating water systems
• Steam systems
• Fuel oil and gas systems
• Compressed air systems
• Process gas systems
• Duct systems
• Chillers
• Cooling towers
• Air handlers
• Heat Exchangers
• Boilers
• Familiar with plumbing and mechanical codes, and ASME B31.1
• Familiar with welding, soldering, brazing, threading of pipe
• Able to read blueprints, understand specifications, and review of submittals for conformance to contract requirements
• Basic knowledge of building automation systems
• Ability to understand and layout based on Architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and plumbing blueprints
• Previous experience as a field engineer or similar role
• Well-versed in technical aspects of field projects, including machinery and equipment
• Understanding of safety guidelines
• Attention to detail
• Outstanding communication skills
• An analytical mind and strong problem-solving ability
• Ability to work in adverse weather and occasional overtime and weekends
• Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred
• Must be able to pass DOD background check for access to the Naval Shipyard
