New project completed in Mt. Prospect, IL

This horizontal red western cedar fence is one of those builds that speaks for itself.

The homeowner wanted something that felt modern without being cold, and natural without looking like every other wood fence on the block. Horizontal cedar delivers exactly that. The grain runs parallel to the ground, which visually widens the yard and creates a cleaner, more architectural look than vertical-board designs.

Every post on this project is galvanized with a black coated finish. That combination matters in the Chicago suburbs, where ground moisture and freeze-thaw cycles put real pressure on post hardware over time. Galvanized black coated steel holds up where plain metal or painted posts eventually fail.

Material choice was red western cedar — naturally rot-resistant, dimensionally stable, and one of the few fence woods that weathers gracefully in the Illinois climate without heavy chemical treatment.
