Many will say that the focus of budding Guernsey herds should be our younger stock. I respectfully disagree. I believe we learn much by observing our foundational herd members, keeping them around and seeing what happens to their conformation, and productive abilities as they age, learning what their nutritional needs are and what challenges they face as aged does. Let's face it, Guernseys aren't like the other well developed goat breeds. They face unique challenges that we as responsible breeders can help with by paying attention and breeding responsibly.
Over the past few years I've carefully curated the selection of aged does who will build the S.W.A.K. herd.
They are telling our future, telling us what to expect from our younger stock, and we are paying attention, because, who cares if a goat is pretty and wins shows if she doesn't age well. 🤷‍♀️

~Cajun is 2 years old and such a thick, wide, correct, sweet boy. He's got 6 daughters on the ground in 3 different herds. We are so excited to see the contributions he will make to this lovely, still developing breed. ❤️
