It’s honestly been hard to just start posting again after losing such an integral part of our team.

For real.

I’m Chip, the guy behind most of Formula’s social media, and I’ve personally struggled with the idea of just getting back into the swing of things, sharing our work like nothing happened.

Because something did happen. We lost a good man.

And while life goes on, and the work has to continue, I wanted anyone who sees our posts to know that there’s a real person behind all of this. It’s not just a bunch of scheduled content going out on autopilot.

Sure, we use AI to slop things up from time to time 😂, but for the most part, it’s us. Our people, our projects, our stories.

Formula is US.

And Chiko was a big part of that.

Anyway, Chiko I hope you’re seeing this somehow and maybe for a minute you can feel that we hit pause for youmy friend.

We’ll get back to our regularly scheduled posts next week.

WE LOST AN OG.

CHIKO PASSED PEACEFULLY AT HOME EARLY THIS MORNING, SURROUNDED BY HIS CLOSEST FAMILY. A DEVOTED FAMILY MAN, LOYAL FRIEND, AND DEEPLY RESPECTED MEMBER OF THE FORMULA ROOFING FAMILY, HE LEAVES US WITH STORIES, LESSONS, AND A WHOLE LOT OF LOVE.

HE HAD ENDLESS KNOWLEDGE AND THE HEART TO PASS IT ON TO EVERY YOUNGBLOOD WILLING TO LISTEN. AFTER A LONG DAY OF FLAT ROOF WORK, WITH STICKY HANDS AND A SMILE STILL ON HIS FACE, HE’D TELL YOU HOW HAPPY HE WAS TO BE WORKING AND HANGING OUT WITH THE CREW.

THAT WAS CHIKO. HE MADE THE WORK BETTER, AND HE MADE THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM BETTER.

HIS LOVE AND DEDICATION TO THIS TEAM ARE HARD TO PUT INTO WORDS. WE’LL KEEP HIS LEGEND ALIVE BY SHARING WHAT HE TAUGHT US AND REMEMBERING THE SPIRIT HE BROUGHT TO EVERY DAY.

By seven thirty, the sun had cleared the Denver skyline, the coffee was already cold, and Jesus was staring at a pallet of shingles delivered roughly one Baja 1000 away from the roof.

Between the pallet and the house stood a narrow alley, two parked cars, a wooden gate, three trash cans, and Mrs. Robinson’s prized rosebush, which everyone had been warned not to touch.

Jesus counted the bundles. Then he counted the men.

“Insurance gave us how much for access?” he asked.

Marley examined the estimate.

“Nothing.”

Jesus smiled the way men smile when the alternative is throwing something expensive into traffic.

There would be no rooftop delivery. No forklift. No dumpster beside the house. Every bundle would be carried in by hand, one at a time, just as the old roof would be carried out, bit by bit and piece by miserable piece.

Somewhere in an air conditioned office, the job existed as a tidy collection of measurements and line items. The shingles were weightless. The alley did not exist. Mrs. Robinson had no rosebush.

But here in Denver, under the rising sun, the roof had weight.

And gravity had reviewed the scope and denied assistance.
