Ross Tree recommends that homeowners in Denver treat their Ash trees between May 15 and June 15, when adult beetles emerge from trees in search of their next host. This is the first treatment window since the destructive insect landed in Denver last year. EAB is here to stay, so if you love your Ash, the time to act is now. Please remember this beetle is a 100% motality insect.

Frost Warning This Week

Denver is tough on its trees, particularly saplings that are less than 4 inches in diameter. Many young trees in the Denver Metro Area got their leaf buds frozen about two weeks ago. Some are now pushing out secondary buds.

Heads Up: We are expecting temperatures below freezing this week. It will hit 32 degrees tomorrow night, followed by two nights in the high 20s. Homeowners with short saplings might want to cover their trees tomorrow, late afternoon. Be sure the tarp hits the ground for full frost protection.

No tree divides Denver homeowners quite like the Cottonwood. Some people love the tree, and others do not. Ultimately, choosing whether to remove, treat, or keep a Cottonwood is a personal decision. To help clarify this process, consider the following key factors: tree health, yard location, and willingness to invest in ongoing care. To learn more, please go to our latest blog titled, “Cottonwood Trees in Denver: Should You Remove, Treat, or Keep?”

A late April freeze can make your trees look rough overnight—but it’s usually not permanent. The black, wilted leaves on Catalpa, Kentucky Coffeetree and Tree of Heaven are classic frost damage. Those leaves won’t recover, but the trees will push a second flush from backup buds in a few weeks. The leafed out Patriot Elm handled the cold well.

Bottom line: different trees respond differently—some avoid, some tolerate, and most recover. In most cases, they bounce back and look normal again by early summer.

Good morning, Ross Tree community. We have been working on our Instagram page. Instagram is a pictorial version of Facebook. We posted 9 pictures of a job on South Pearl Street near Duffeyrolls. For this job, we had to hire a crane. The crane could be seen on the east side of Washington, a half mile away. It was enormous. Check it out.
