Before social media.

Before influencers.

Before handmade bicycles became fashionable. (OK, that was a lie. Handmade bicycles have always been fashionable.)

There was NAHBS.

And there was Elvis.

Handcrafted by Mike "ANTBikeMike" Flanigan from the tools and materials of the trade, Elvis became the trophy every builder hoped to win.

Not because of its value.

Because of what it represented.

Excellence.

Craftsmanship.

Innovation.

Respect from your peers.

Some builders won Elvis.

Every builder wanted to.

Going way back into the NAHBS Archives — all the way to 2008.

Up first: the amazing titanium stylings of James Bleakley of Black Sheep Bicycles.

Next is a bike so wild that Lance Armstrong bought it right off the show floor for his personal collection — crafted by Sam Whittingham of Naked Bicycles.

And lastly, you can’t forget the builder who creates frames just so he can attach his original artwork to them: John Slawta of Land Shark Bicycles.

Outstanding bikes by outstanding builders — all part of NAHBS 2008.

From the NAHBS Archives!

All the way back to 2006 in San Jose, CA.
The Afterparty was epic with a band comprised of framebuilders and a bicycle industry insider, known as The Motherfluxers, playing in the host hotel bar. Paul Sadoff (Rock Lobster Cycles) on guitar, Dave (last name escapes me, sorry!) on bass and Brian Baylis (Rest in Peace!) on drums. They sounded great and a fun time was had by all. Especially Carl Schlemowitz, who was so moved, he was moshing and jumped off the 8 inch high stage.

Who says framebuilders can’t get wild and have fun?

NAHBS Returns!

After several years away, I am proud to announce the return of the North American Handmade Bicycle Show as the NAHBS Reunion & Invitational.

The year is 2028, we're looking at January and February dates, and will post again when we have a contract.

During the hiatus I spent a lot of time reflecting on what made NAHBS special. It was never just about bicycles. It was about friendships, craftsmanship, innovation, and bringing many of the world's finest builders together under one roof.

The Reunion is about reconnecting old friends and celebrating the builders who helped shape our industry. The Invitational is about showcasing world-class craftsmanship and continuing to inspire the next generation of builders.

To everyone who supported NAHBS over the years, and to everyone who asked when it would return, thank you.

I'm looking forward to seeing you in Austin.

Hi friends and fans of NAHBS!

I can't believe I missed it Wednesday and Thursday of this week!
What, you ask?
20 years ago on the 15th and 16th of January, the very first NAHBS took place in Houston!

A lot has happened in the last few years. I will post again very soon, I promise.

In the meantime, just know I miss and love you all!

Dear Friends,

It pains me beyond words to have to say this, but due to the unexpectedly low number
of commitments to attend from exhibitors, we are forced to reschedule this year’s show. While
this lack of support is disappointing, we understand that exponentially rising costs, travel
uncertainties, supply chain challenges and pandemic fears may have contributed to these
business decisions. Whatever the reasons, we cannot escape the conclusion that this year it is
commercially impossible to present the kind of show that you are used to and have come to
expect from us.

We waited as long we reasonably could before making this difficult call in hopes that more
exhibitors would decide to attend. Because that has not happened and due to our own financial
commitments to the venue, we have no other choice but to reschedule. We plan to return to
Denver in 2023 with a show designed for our rapidly changing industry.

If you are among the exhibitors that committed to attend this year’s show, you have my deep
appreciation and gratitude.

On a more personal note, some of you know that I recently had a diagnosis for a new cardio-vascular issue. I expect to make a full recovery, but it
may take me a little time to get back to business as usual. I appreciate your understanding and
patience during these challenging times and I look forward to working with you again soon.

Love to all.
