π€ Friday Fun Fact: A 2x4 Isn't a 2x4
Go measure one. We'll wait. π
A standard 2x4 is actually 1Β½ inches by 3Β½ inches. Not even close to its name! π
Here's why: it starts at a rough-cut 2" x 4" when it's green and freshly milled. Then it gets dried and planed smooth on all four sides β and about a half inch disappears in the process. The name stuck anyway.
It's a small thing, but it's a good reminder of something we say a lot around here: in home building, what something is called and what you actually get aren't always the same. π That's true of lumber, and it's true of budgets, allowances, and bids too.
Ask questions. Measure things. Read the fine print. π‘
