This project started with an existing oval fish pond on the property dating back to the early 1900’s. The concept rendering was to build off that history and create a meandering river with an additional pond that would give views of the water from within the house.
We needed some elevation change to make the river and waterfalls work, so we built a circular stone seating bench surrounding a wood-burning fire pit. The back of the seating bench gave us the foundation we needed to start incorporating some elevation change into an otherwise flat lot.
Connecting the fire pit seating area, the house, and eventually leading out to a cantilevered slab over the pond is an irregular bluestone flagging pathway, stitched together with minimal jointing. The cantilevered slab features a Japanese-themed engraving of a dragon and koi by Joel from ELEMENTAL Stone Design as well as the veneered bench. Seating bench BlueStone fabrication by Raul Frausto.
We’re now rounding the corner with just some final touches left to do, but overall this has been an absolute pleasure of a project. The homeowner couldn’t be easier to work with and has played a huge role in the overall outcome of the project.
More pictures to come. Pictures really don’t do a project like this any justice, but we couldn’t help sharing it. This is one of those projects we couldn’t be happier to hand over to the client.
