Good morning and Happy Monday! ☀️
With storm cleanup still ongoing throughout the area, we’ve been seeing an increasing amount of tree debris being left piled along curbs and in alleys after private tree work is completed.
This is something homeowners need to be aware of when hiring a tree service. Before agreeing to any work, make sure you know exactly what your quoted price includes.
We’re seeing companies charge extremely inflated prices for storm work, collect payment, cut the trees, and then drag the logs and brush to the curb for city-contracted storm cleanup crews to haul away.
If a homeowner hires and pays a private tree company to perform the work, that company should be responsible for completing the entire job. Don’t charge a premium price, drag everything from the backyard to the road, collect your check, and leave the cleanup for someone else.
Before hiring any tree service especially following a major storm ask questions:
• Is debris removal and hauling included in the price?
• Is the company properly insured?
• Can they provide a current Certificate of Insurance?
• Can they provide any bonding or licensing documentation required by the municipality?
• Will they provide a written, detailed estimate showing the scope of work, services included, and total cost?
If a company is unable or unwilling to provide the proper documentation or clearly explain what is included in your estimate, they may not be the right company for the job.
A reputable tree service should have no problem being transparent about its pricing, insurance, scope of work, and cleanup responsibilities.
Know what you’re paying for before the work begins.
