Orfi Pelaez (4th summer interning with DCCA) rattled off his three biggest takeaways showing his value years of experience “1) Planning ahead is more important than reacting. I learned that successful superintendents stay several steps ahead by coordinating upcoming work and identifying potential conflicts before they impact the project schedule. 2) Effective communication drives project success. I learned that clear communication between subcontractors, project managers, architects, and owners is essential to keeping work on schedule and preventing costly mistakes. 3) Documentation protects the project. I learned to document daily progress, field conditions, completed work, delays, and issues through reports and photographs so the project team has accurate records.”

Thompson Head started this summer as an intern, but quickly proved his dedication and talent, earning his place as our newest Field Superintendent. Thompson summarized to the group the different phases of the job he experienced during his internship: Managed preconstruction planning, coordination, scheduling, and communication with subs on a daily basis; oversaw rough in work electrical, HVAC, and low voltage; and coordinated inspections, glass installation, and interior finishes. Fun fact about Thompson is that both his father and grandfather were General Contractors.
