Shine on Chillicothe made some new friends this week. Meet Charles, Scott, and Ace. Charles works at Geese Chasers LLC, a company that uses trained border collies to herd Canada geese away from properties. We learned that when geese are chased, they either return to their original home or where there is food. Also, when they are fed human food (bread, oats), they get too fat to fly! Border collies Scott (the dad) and Ace simply herd the geese. They never harm the geese—they are herders. The geese get nervous around the border collies because they mimic their natural predator—the Arctic fox. We are so pleased that the park’s sidewalks and grounds are cleaner due to Scott and Ace’s efforts!
