it’s that “small wall” no one notices – that ends up saving you thousands of dollars.
Let’s talk about shower glass for a minute.
Some people know exactly what they want – custom glass, made to the precise size, thickness, and finish they dreamed of.
It’s a full design experience, and it’s perfect for those who love getting every detail just right.
And then there are those who still want a stunning shower – but are working with a set budget.
For them, there’s one small trick that’s worth knowing:
Most standard shower glass comes in widths of 54–60 inches,
and you can often find it for as little as $450–$500.
But go wider than that – and you’re talking about custom orders that usually start at $2,200–$2,800.
The solution?
If you’re still in the planning stage, consider adding a small wall on one side of the opening.
It brings the final width down to a standard size, so you can use ready-made glass.
It looks great, functions perfectly – and saves a lot.
At the end of the day, everyone has their own way of creating their dream space.
Some go all-in, no matter the cost.
Others enjoy finding creative ways to make it all work within their budget.
So… what’s your style?
In the attached images, you can see a layout we designed for a client — this is exactly her case. We’re planning ahead for a small 8-inch wall that will be tiled, in order to support a standard shower glass and avoid the need for a custom order.
Some people like to add a bench in the niche that’s created — but that’s a conversation for another time.
