At SERVPRO, we recently completed a mold remediation project in Northfield where proper containment was critical to protecting the rest of the property during the cleanup process.
When treating mold, it’s not just about removing what you can see — it’s about preventing cross-contamination. Mold spores are microscopic and can easily become airborne during demolition and cleaning. Without proper controls in place, those spores can spread to unaffected areas and create a much larger issue.
🔒 Why proper containment matters:
We established a sealed containment barrier around the affected area using heavy-duty plastic sheeting and controlled access points to isolate the workspace and protect unaffected areas.
🌬 Creating negative air pressure:
A key part of professional mold remediation is generating negative air within the containment. Using HEPA-filtered air filtration devices, we created controlled airflow that pulls air into the contained space and filters it before discharge. This prevents airborne spores from escaping and helps maintain a safe environment throughout the remediation process.
👀 What to look for if you suspect mold:
• Musty or damp odors
• Visible staining or discoloration on walls or ceilings
• Peeling paint or bubbling drywall
• Past or ongoing water damage
• Increased allergy-like symptoms indoors
Remember — mold growth is a symptom of a moisture problem. Addressing the source of water intrusion is essential to long-term success.
Proper containment, negative air, and thorough remediation procedures are what make the difference in restoring a safe, healthy environment. If you have concerns about mold in your home or business in Northfield, we’re here to help.
