George W. Braxdall No.28 is a PHA lodge out of Decatur, Alabama PAST MASTER Michael Allen W.M Xavier Engram S.W. Antonio Hubbard J.W. Terrance Stevenson Lodge meet every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month at 7pm To All My Brother's S.M.I.B x3 Talladegan George W. Braxdall was elected the first grand master of Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 12, after consolidation. Braxdall was born on July 4, 1839, in Danville, Kentucky, but established permanent roots in Talladega. Braxdall's determination was to see his family, community and himself succeed. He quickly rose among his African American peers, as well as to a status of respect from the white community. Braxdall served with distinction in numerous capacities. He served as one of the first African-American state representatives in the Alabama State House, was the first African-American law enforcement officer in Alabama, was a delegate for the state of Alabama to numerous conventions and was appointed by Gov. David P. Lewis to be in charge of disseminating rations to newly freed African American. It is believed that Braxdall was initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry in 1875 within a lodge under Alabama's Compact Grand Lodge No. 10 in 1876 and later became a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 12. Masonry serves to improve private conduct and relationships through fellowship and discipline. Masonry's primary teachings are intended to produce a finer grade of men, make domestic relations cleaner and more binding, to nurture the spirit of charity through tolerance and helpfulness, and to be concerned with the human behavior and the possibility for its improvement. Masonry should also inspire and stimulate many interests because variety is wholesome and beneficial.
