We recently took the family to *finally* try 1928 Meat & Eat Kitchen and what an absolute gem! Discovering local spots and getting to know the people behind them is something we truly value and enjoy.

*This weekend* they’re giving our community another reason to come together. They’re hosting a fundraising event this Saturday to help raise money for a local resident fighting cancer. ‼️Stay informed, folks. The risk may be low, but mosquito season is here. Take a few minutes to eliminate standing water and reduce areas where mosquitoes can thrive. A little prevention goes a long way.

🦟 Health officials are warning Central Florida residents that Eastern Equine Encephalitis, one of the deadliest mosquito-borne viruses in North America, has been detected in sentinel chickens in Orange County as the state heads into peak mosquito season.

At least nine cases of Triple-E activity have now been confirmed across Orange, Volusia, and Brevard counties in 2026, including a horse that tested positive in Volusia County back in March. Sentinel chickens are placed at strategic locations throughout Florida counties and tested weekly for mosquito-borne viruses. When they test positive, it signals that the virus is actively circulating in the local mosquito population and the risk of transmission to humans has increased.

While human cases of EEE are rare, with only five to 10 reported nationally each year, the virus is devastating when it strikes. Approximately 30% of people who contract it die, and survivors often face severe, permanent neurological damage. There is no vaccine, no specific treatment, and no cure for humans. The only defense is prevention: drain standing water where mosquitoes breed, keep doors and windows properly screened, wear EPA-approved repellent when outdoors especially at dawn and dusk, and keep grass and vegetation maintained around your home. Orange County Mosquito Control is monitoring the situation closely and conducting targeted treatments in areas where virus activity has been detected 🔍.
