Seeing giant mosquitoes?? It may be crane flies actually. Do crane flies bite like mosquitoes?

Spring emerging crane flies are flittering over lawns during the day and crashing into porch lights at night in Ohio. Native crane flies can benefit turfgrass. Non-natives can cause significant damage.

20th Year Anniversary

As a Summer job during high school and college, I worked for a local lawn treatment company. We would be treating lawns that didn’t have too many w**ds, but we were dousing the whole lawn in chemicals. That is how that company and many like it had always done it. I thought to myself, “This isn’t the way it should be. There has to be a better way”. That better way is PureLawn.

In 2006, PureLawn was established with a mindset to cut back on the unnecessary chemicals while still creating beautiful, lush lawns. I had a 1996 F-150 that wasn’t much, but it got the job done. I stored fertilizer in my mother’s garage. I worked at the local golf course on the grounds crew from 4am -12pm and then treated lawns into the evening.

We had 60 brave customers that first season. Many are still with us! PureLawn is now reducing lawn chemicals on over 3,400 lawns in the Dayton and Cincinnati area. We have 13 amazing team members including my patient business partner Chad Craft who has ran the Cincinnati location since 2011 and is now Part Owner. It has been quite the ride, and I can’t wait for the next 20 years!

We use google earth to measure lawns for pricing on potential new customers. I was doing this recently and happened to notice a dark green lawn that stood out on the road. I looked at the address and realized that is a PureLawn! I bet you can figure out which one is a PureLawn on this road. Thanks Brian for your support over the years!
