What does it mean to be a LOCAL contractor? Let’s just start with location. If you have an office but it isn’t in the area you claim to be LOCAL? You’re not LOCAL to that area. If you don’t buy your materials in the area you claim to be LOCAL? You’re not LOCAL. If you don’t use other LOCAL businesses for anything and everything possible? You’re not LOCAL. If you’re not sponsoring LOCAL youth organizations? You’re not LOCAL. At BANA Roofing and Solar, we are as LOCAL as it gets to Murray County. Although we serve most of the state. We buy 99% of the materials we use at TH Rogers Lumber. We pay a lot of LOCAL sales tax in doing so. I have looked at getting materials from big national chain distributors, and on a typical 25-30 square roof. I would save around $300-500 on material costs. I realize that ads up and I could have a little better profit margins at the end of the year. I wouldn’t be supporting our local economy though.

5 years ago today, I made it official.

Got my roofing license and stepped into an industry where—let’s be honest—a lot of guys don’t last.

Depending on who you ask, anywhere from 50–80% of construction businesses don’t make it to the 5-year mark. Roofing? That number feels even higher when you’ve seen the storm chasers come and go.
