Looking back at one of our standout projects from 2025: the Utility Upgrades and Smith Hall Hot Water Plant Replacement at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH.

Completed on an accelerated schedule within the heart of an occupied campus, this project transformed Smith Hall into a new, electrified hot water plant serving Smith Hall, Sawyer Hall, Scott Hall, and Stillings Dining Hall, while maintaining uninterrupted campus operations throughout construction.

From complex underground utility work and constrained mechanical spaces to material delays caused by a catastrophic manufacturing facility fire, this project challenged our team at every turn. Through thoughtful phasing, proactive coordination, and a strong partnership approach, the team successfully delivered a solution that supports UNH's long-term decarbonization goals.

We are grateful to the University of New Hampshire team for their continued trust and collaboration. Our partnership spans many successful projects, and we're proud to have played a role in helping advance the university's campus infrastructure and sustainability initiatives.

Sage Portsmouth is a project we're incredibly proud to have delivered alongside Torrington Properties, Inc. and EMBARC.

Located within the Portsmouth Green mixed-use development, Sage Portsmouth is a 140,000 SF, 95-unit luxury residential community that transformed the site of a former movie theater into a vibrant new destination. The project brought together innovative design, thoughtful amenities, and complex construction within an active commercial environment.

The building combines a steel-and-concrete podium with three stories of wood-frame construction above, creating a modern residential experience that includes open-air covered parking, a resident fitness center, bike storage, game and entertainment spaces, first-floor gathering areas, and a beautifully designed outdoor amenity deck overlooking the community.

Inside, residents enjoy thoughtfully designed homes featuring high-end finishes and contemporary living spaces that reflect the quality and attention to detail invested throughout the project.

That commitment to excellence was recognized when Sage Portsmouth received a Gold Award at the PRISM Awards for Excellence in Community Design, competing against projects from across New Hampshire and Greater Boston.

We’re pleased to announce the promotion of Alex Croteau to Project Manager!

Since joining Charters Brothers in early 2024, Alex has consistently stepped up to take on greater responsibility, including a key leadership role on one of our most demanding and complex projects to date. His dedication and contributions were recognized by his peers when they named him our 2025 Employee of the Year.

Alex has also been a driving force behind our technology modernization, writing standard operating procedures and helping teammates get up to speed on new systems. He has also played an integral role in rolling out our NavVis MLX laser-scanning capabilities.

In his first assignment as Project Manager, Alex will lead a critical GMP warehouse renovation and a 10,000 SF office renovation in Bedford, New Hampshire.

Alex, congratulations on this well-earned next step in your career. We’re excited to see what you accomplish in your new role!

It was a fantastic day on the course, filled with friendly competition, great networking, and support for an even better cause!

We were proud to sponsor the Greater Salem Contractors Association’s 22nd Annual Drive Away Hunger Golf Tournament at Atkinson Resort & Country Club.

As students and staff prepare to return for a new school year, we're proud to be nearing completion of a 100-window replacement project at Hampton Centre School in Hampton, NH.

Completing this work during a condensed summer construction period required extensive planning and coordination. Through close collaboration with our window supplier, Pella Windows & Doors of New England, and our trusted subcontractor partners, our team coordinated the field measurement, procurement, and installation of 100 replacement windows, ensuring classroom work was prioritized and substantially completed before the start of the school year.

While a few remaining project elements, including window blinds and final punch list items, will continue over the coming weeks, we're excited to have the majority of the work complete and ready to support a comfortable learning environment for students and staff.

Thank you to the Turner Group for their partnership as project architect and to the Hampton Centre School administration for their flexibility and collaboration throughout the project. We appreciate the teamwork and commitment that helped make this work a success.

Today we're celebrating a big milestone: Heather's 5-year anniversary with Charters Brothers!

Since joining in 2021, Heather has played a pivotal role in shaping who we are today. Her dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact across every corner of our organization.

A former Employee of the Year and recently promoted to Director of Business Operations, Heather oversees a wide range of crucial functions including accounting, AP/AR, contracts, compliance, risk management, and business administration while also driving our HR efforts and even event planning.

Heather has strengthened how we operate at every level, improving existing policies and helping implement new ones. She's a true cornerstone of Charters Brothers and a big part of what keeps us running smoothly.

We're grateful to have her on the team. Here's to five great years, and many more ahead!

As we reflect on projects that continue to make an impact across our community, we're proud to highlight the Dimond Library Chiller Replacement project completed at the University of New Hampshire.

Working closely with UNH and the design team at B2Q Associates, our team replaced the existing equipment with two new 300-ton JCI YORK chillers, delivering 600 tons of efficient, reliable cooling capacity. Housed within the Dimond Library central chiller plant, the upgraded system serves three campus buildings.

This project represents UNH's ongoing commitment to energy efficiency, infrastructure renewal, and long-term campus sustainability.
Thank you to UNH, B2Q Associates, Johnson Controls, our subcontractor partners, and the CBC project team for the collaboration and technical expertise that made this critical infrastructure upgrade possible.

Meet Hunter White — another one of CBC's Summer 2026 Project Engineer Interns!
Hunter is a Construction Management student at Southern New Hampshire University, heading into his sophomore year this fall. He's currently gaining hands-on experience on the ski locker room project at UNH, and next he'll be heading to our Hampton Center School project.

The Charters Brothers team had the privilege of volunteering at the UNH Special Olympics again this year, and it was a day we're proud to be part of.
Our team helped with setup and served as escorts for athletes and attendees throughout the event. Being present in that role, making sure people felt welcomed, supported, and celebrated, is the kind of work that puts everything else in perspective.
UNH has been home to some of our most meaningful projects over the years, and getting to give back to that campus and community in this way means a lot to our team. We're grateful to the organizers for having us, proud of our team for showing up, and already looking forward to doing it again.
