A simple addition that makes the space underneath your deck a whole lot more useful. đź’§

The homeowners had the materials ready to go — we came in and installed the system so they can keep the area underneath dry and actually enjoy the space, even when it’s raining.

That’s one of the best parts of building for homeowners: finding ways to make the space you already have work even better.

Another good day on the second-story addition. Today we started removing the siding from the gables to get everything ready for the next phase.

The biggest news is the electric finally gets moved next week. Once that’s done, we can really get rolling and start making some major progress on this addition.

We also have replacement parts coming for the forklift next week, so it’ll be back to work soon. We picked up a new set of adjustable ladder feet today too, and we’re already wishing we would’ve bought them sooner.

Another step checked off on this second-story addition. We got the upstairs cleaned out, all the old plaster is gone, the insulation is out, the carpet’s in the dumpster, and now we’ve got a clean slate to work with.

We’re just waiting on Met-Ed to move the electric. Once that’s done, things are going to move fast. The next step is taking out the knee walls, cutting the existing roof into sections, hauling it away, building the new walls, and setting the new trusses on top.

This is where you’ll really start to see the addition come together. Stay tuned—we’ve got a lot more to show over the next couple of weeks.

Not every day on the job is spent building.

Today was all about keeping our all-terrain forklift working. We needed to pull some seized pins so we can reseal a hydraulic cylinder, and they weren’t going anywhere.

Our buddy Bob came over, welded a nut onto the pin, hooked up a slide hammer, and got it loose. Sometimes it’s not about having more force—it’s about knowing the right trick.

Big thanks to Bob for the help. We appreciate it! 👊🏼

On a project this size, efficiency matters. Having the right equipment helps us move material faster, keep the jobsite organized, and keep the project progressing.

Our forklift is a huge part of keeping larger projects like this moving. From hauling out demo material and cleanup to helping set trusses when we’re rebuilding the structure, having the right equipment makes a big difference.

This second story addition is moving along — more updates coming as we rebuild this space.

Every addition has a beginning… and it’s not always the exciting part homeowners see.

Today we started opening up the second story addition by tearing out plaster, removing walls, and clearing out the areas that will eventually become part of the new space.

We’re still waiting on Met-Ed to move the electric over to a temporary pole, but there’s always something that can be done to keep a project moving.

A lot happens before the framing starts and the finished space comes together. This is just the first step in transforming this home.

A staircase like this doesn’t just “go together.”

By the time the stringers are installed, there’s still hours of work ahead—cutting every tread, fitting every riser, installing the decking, skirting, railing, and making sure everything comes together cleanly.

This project features Fiberon composite decking with a hidden fastener system, giving the deck a clean surface without rows of visible screw heads. We also finished it with low-maintenance PVC skirting and a vinyl railing for a long-lasting finished look.

One detail most homeowners never think about is joist spacing.

Years ago, many wood decks were framed with joists 24 inches on center, and that worked for traditional wood decking.

Most composite decking today is designed to be installed over 16-inch-on-center joists to provide the support it’s engineered for.

It’s one of those details you’ll never see once the deck is finished, but it plays a big role in how solid the deck feels and how well it performs over time.

It’s just one more reason we believe what’s underneath is just as important as what you see on top.
