Stand in your garage and watch the door close, all the way down, once. It takes about twelve seconds and most people have never done it.
Three things to look for: does it come down level, does it travel at a steady speed, and is there a click or a scrape at one particular height.
All three are warnings that arrive long before anything breaks. A bottom edge that is no longer level is usually a cable stretching rather than a Grand Prairie slab settling.
None of those three warnings stops the door working, which is exactly why they get lived with for a year before anybody calls.
Try it tonight and tell us what you noticed.
