Starlink came to Namibia. Namibia said comply with our laws.

Starlink appealed. Namibia said NO again.

624 appeals filed. All dismissed.

President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is sending a message the entire continent needs to hear Africa is not a market you enter on your own terms.

You meet our standards or you don't come in.

Billions in valuation. Global expansion. None of that moves Namibia.

Africa has been begging for foreign investment for too long.

Namibia just reminded the world we don't beg.

We negotiate. And if you don't respect our laws, the door is right there.

The era of Africa accepting any deal just to get a seat at the table is OVER.

A Father’s Day Reflection:
I preached my first sermon on Father’s Day in 1987, at Antioch A.M.E. Church in Hobart, OK. How many women do you think will be preaching today? Well, my former husband was the pastor. Praise God for all the women who will be preaching this morning. I celebrate 36 years of ordained ministry this month.

I give thanks to God and the Ancestors, my parents, Myrtle and Willis Butts, my grandparents, Georgia Lee and Charlie Lee Barnes, my great grandparents, Merrill and Eli Barnes, Rep. Eli Barnes, who was elected to the Georgia State Assembly after Reconstruction, only to have the right to serve withdrawn because of the color of his skin.

I give thanks to my parents who supported me in my quest to learn and to achieve. They were always there for me.

To my father, SMSGT Willis A. Butts, born in the Deep South, in abject poverty. He always worked three jobs, and without a college education, raised three children in a house that still stands, and that I can’t afford to buy, and put three children through college.

That’s what I would preach today. But that’s not the whole counsel of God. Because that’s not everyone’s story.

And then there was my greatgrandfather’s brother, Nathan Barnes, who in 1872, left racist Georgia, and at the behest of the American Colonization Society, in 1872, boarded a ship back to Africa.

Most every Father’s Day since 1995, the year my father died, I would find myself deeply and profoundly depressed. I was a Daddy’s girl. His only girl. His Donna Marie.

I thank God for my father, my grandfathers and great grandfathers. I thank God for the men in my family, the pastors, the teachers, and the men often forgotten.

2023 was a tough year; the death of my mother, Myrtle Barnes Butts, at 104 years old, and then the death of my beloved cousin, Eli Budu Tubman, at age 77, the father of Vacanarat Bodio Tubman. This tribute is worthy of the man that he was. Rest in peace Budu.

What I think the tribute by Dagbayonoh Kiah Nyanfore failed to mention was that he was a beloved professor of Black Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore for many years, and then at Tubman University in Liberia before his death.

Dagbayonoh Kiah Nyanfore ends the article by saying that Eli’s death was shocking. Indeed it was and some deaths you don’t really recover from. Cousin Eli’s death impacted me like that, too. Eli was such a proud Black man, a true Pan Africanist. But more than that, he really, really, really loved Black people. He loved his family and he loved me.

And I really loved Eli.

He was a humble man and the nephew of President William V.S. Tubman, president of Liberia from 1944 until his death in 1971. His father, Alexander Tubman and President Tubman were brothers.

Rest in peace and power, Eli!

I have written many tributes without problems . But with this, I had difficulties starting .
