When someone tells you, “You have great plant hands,” and you actually start blushing. 🥹🌱

Like damn… maybe I really was born to do this.

What started as curiosity turned into passion, community, education, and a whole lotta plants. Maybe these hands found exactly what they were meant for. 🤞🏽🌿

I was lowkey in a little mood lately… 😮‍💨🌱

Then my bestie Sam surprised me because I had NO IDEA these babies had dropped at Costco! 😭💗🍌

A PINK BANANA TREE?! And only $30?!

Sometimes all you need is a new plant & bestie time to make you feel brand new. ✨🌱

It’s the little things, mi gente. 💗

Bet you can’t guess what plant I got at the end of the video… 👀🌱

Kim & Ryan hold such a special place in my heart. They haven’t just supported The Pon Don—they’ve supported Fidel. And that means more to me than they probably realize. These two are family. 🤎

Ryan helped me create my very first Anthurium hybrid, something I’ll never forget. The amount of knowledge Kim & Ryan hold—and the fact that they so genuinely share that knowledge with the plant community—is one of the most beautiful things about them.

Being in their greenhouse always resets my soul. 🌿 It reminds me why I fell in love with plants and this community in the first place. I’m beyond grateful that I get to call them friends and plant family.

And y’all… they have some VERY exciting news coming. 👀 If you’re not following them yet, you might want to fix that.

Breanne… you already know you hold a special place too, BBG. 🤞🏽🤎

Now… did you guess the plant before the end? 👀🌱

🤠🌱 100 Plants Native to Texas — Day 2

💙 Texas Bluebonnet
🔬 Lupinus texensis

You can’t talk about Texas plants without talking about this icon. More than just a pretty spring wildflower, the Texas Bluebonnet has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the Lone Star State. 💙

Those fields of blue every spring? They’re part of what makes the Texas landscape so damn special.

Native plants aren’t just beautiful—they tell the story of the land we call home.

🌱 Learn the plants. Respect the land. Keep Texas native.

Follow The Pon Don for Day 3 of 100 Plants Native to Texas.

“Where would you be without plants?”

Meanwhile, I’ve built friendships, traveled, taught workshops, found community, and somehow turned talking about plants on the internet into part of my life.

So yeah… you might just be a plant, but you changed everything. 💚

Crazy how one little hobby can reroute your entire life.

Keep growing, mi gente. 🌱

Funny reel but serious message. Lineage matters. 🌱

And maybe that’s why I care so much about knowing where my plants come from.

I grew up Mexican in a society that sometimes made us feel like the easiest way to fit in was to erase pieces of where we came from. Speak less Spanish. Americanize yourself. Don’t be too Mexican.

But as I got older, I realized the things I was taught to quiet down were the exact things I should’ve been proud of.

That’s why lineage means something different to me now.

Take Anthurium carlablackiae. It isn’t just another dark velvet Anthurium with a pretty name. It has an origin, a documented history, and a name honoring Carla Black, the horticulturist who first collected it in Panama.

And when we talk about specific Carlas in cultivation, knowing the parents, the breeder, and the provenance matters too.

A name tells you what it is. Lineage tells you where it came from.

Funny how plants keep teaching me lessons I needed outside of plants.

I know where I come from now.
I’m proud of where I come from.
And I refuse to erase my lineage just to make somebody else comfortable.

Plants or people — know your roots, mi gente. 🇲🇽🌱

Plot twist: I actually love this s**t. 😮‍💨

The pressure. The long days. The risks. The moments where I have absolutely no idea how I’m gonna make it work… and then somehow, I do.

Every time life has made me uncomfortable, it’s forced me to grow.

So doubt me. Count me out. Tell me it won’t work.

Just don’t act surprised when it does. 😏

Mi gente, we’re not waiting for the right moment anymore.

We’re betting on ourselves. Every. Damn. Time. 🤞🏽
