llas Rose Society members are home gardeners who enjoy growing roses and want to expand their knowledge of rose culture. Our monthly programs cover many topics of interest such as the history of roses, selection of roses, landscaping with roses, organic and inorganic fertilization and pest management, hybridization, growing, exhibiting, designing rose arrangements, research, and photography of roses.

Many of the members of the Dallas Rose Society have been designated as Consulting Rosarians, and have agreed to assist other rose growers with their rose problems and questions.

The Dallas Rose Society publishes 10 monthly newsletters for members, The Rose Petal. The newsletter includes monthly articles specifically written for rose care in the Dallas area.

The Dallas Rose Society meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month, (except July and December) at North Haven Gardens at 2:30 PM for refreshments and 3:00 PM for the program.

Great ideas for adding variety to our gardens with fragrant blooms in pots on the patio. In a partially enclosed or protected outdoor space, we love how the wonderful scents are even more noticeable.

Fill your pots with fragrant flowers to add a pleasant aroma to your patio, entryway, or windowsill. These flowers will fill the air with a sweet scent.

Wonderful resource on companion plants for roses!

Thirty years of growing roses has taught me one thing: mostly, we just get in their way. Folks will spend a small fortune on chemical sprays and special feeds, but completely ignore who they’ve moved in next door. The right neighbors will do the heavy lifting for you. In fact, there is a completely ordinary everyday kitchen herb that actually makes your roses smell sweeter, while quietly showing beetles and aphids the door. Plant it at the base, and you're golden. But on the flip side? There are a couple of very popular garden staples that you should never let near your rose beds. I killed a few perfectly good climbers back in the nineties making that exact mistake before I learned better. Put the right things together, and the rest sorts itself out. I’ve written down a list of the neighbor plants that actually work, and the ones you need to keep far away. Check down below if you want to save yourself a bit of trial and error this season.

Making Arrangements -- Florist Trennis Peters showed us how it's done at the Dallas Rose Society meeting today, demonstrating a variety of floral arranging techniques and arrangement styles. Key takeaways : collect a range of interesting vases, build a supportive structure with your favorites greenery (from the store or from your yard) and then experiment with placing flowers, and have fun! Add flower food to the water in your vase before you start, trim stems before placing them, and replace the water in the vase every two days, while also cutting each stem again. Thank you, Trennis, for a fun and informative presentation!
