This backyard refused to pick just one purpose!

A tanning ledge gives it a spot to lounge without ever leaving the water. A spa sits right beside the outdoor kitchen and fireplace, so the whole setup functions as one continuous hangout instead of separate zones. Then there's still enough open water left over for a pickup game, tucked off to the side without crowding anything else out. It's proof a backyard doesn't have to choose between relaxing and entertaining. With the right layout, it just does both.

Most people don't think about spa placement until it's too late to change!

A raised spa attached to the pool creates that waterfall edge people love in photos, but it also means the spa and pool share a footprint, so the layout has to work harder around it. Tuck it to the side instead and the pool reads as its own clean shape, with the spa as a separate feature you step into rather than spill from. Build it as its own detached space and now it's basically a second gathering spot, with its own seating and its own reason to exist apart from swimming. None of these is the "right" answer. But once concrete is poured, the choice is permanent, which is exactly why it's worth slowing down on before the design gets locked in.

Grass around the pool is quietly going extinct in DFW backyards. 🌱

It usually starts with one bad summer. The grass around the pool struggles to keep up with the heat, the chlorine splash, and the extra foot traffic, and by August it's patchy no matter how much water gets thrown at it. Turf sidesteps the whole problem. It stays green in July the same way it does in January, and the only maintenance left is an occasional rinse.

There are days the calendar never lets us forget. September 11th is one of them. To the first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation, to the survivors who carry that day with them still, and to the families who have spent so many years holding onto memories: we see you, and we will never forget. 🤍🇺🇸

This backyard feels more like a hidden cove than a pool. 🧜‍♀️

Free-form water winds around a raised spa built into natural stone, with a rock waterfall feeding straight into the deep end. Shaded by mature trees and framed in flagstone, it's the kind of space that makes you forget you're a few steps from your own back door.

Today's a shoutout to our team because a pool doesn't build itself. It takes weeks of digging, framing, plumbing, and plastering, done by one crew from the first day to the last. This Labor Day, we're grateful for the hands behind every backyard we build. 🙏

A linear fire feature that curves like a wave anchors this backyard, but what makes it work is how easily indoors and outdoors trade places. Sliding doors open the primary suite straight onto the patio, so morning coffee or a late night by the fire never feels like a separate trip.

The pool itself stays clean and classic with a checkered waterline tile, framed by turf-lined pavers. A covered lounge rounds out the space, so there's shade and a place to sit no matter what the Texas sun is doing. 🌅

There is something about a pool that spills over the edge instead of just sitting still. 💦

This backyard plays with elevation the whole way through, from the raised stone wall framing the upper pool to the curved edge where the water disappears into the lower level below. The spa tucks right into that same wall, pouring its own waterfall into the pool beside it, and the whole thing is wrapped in enough travertine patio space to host a crowd without anyone feeling crowded. It is proof that a sloped or tiered yard is not a limitation, it is an opportunity most homeowners never think to ask for.

The lake was already the view. Now there's a pool that matches it. ☀

Blue glass tile carries the water color right up onto the raised spa, and the deck was built to disappear into the shoreline instead of fighting it. Mornings out here start with coffee and end with everyone still in the water at sunset.
