We are proud to support the St. Inigoes project with marine demolition and heavy timber marine construction services.

The Team’s scope includes removing the existing timber piles, framing, decking, and associated structural components before constructing a new timber pier on driven timber piles with new timber framing and decking. In total, we are driving 51 piles, including temporary access pier piles, fender piles, and structural piles.

We are wrapping up rehabilitation on two critical drawbridges that span the Wicomico River in Salisbury, MD. The project included underwater concrete rehabilitation, timber fender replacement, epoxy crack injection, and heavy pile-driving. As part of the main marine construction work, we removed existing timber dolphin clusters and replaced them with driven steel pipe piles. Each new dolphin cluster consisted of seven 24-inch-diameter, ½-inch-wall steel pipe piles measuring 90 feet in length. Each pile was filled with 5,000 PSI concrete.

The Team overcame significant challenges, including working in a highly confined marine corridor. By coordinating work sequencing, we were able to maintain navigational access while completing pile installation and rehabilitation activities. Congrats to the Team on another successful project!

In marine construction, steel piles are often used for bridge supports, piers, terminals, bulkheads, and other projects that require deep support.

With adequate maintenance and cathodic protection to help prevent corrosion, steel piles can have a long service life.

Timber piles are used for a number of marine construction applications, including fenders, dolphins, piers, and waterfront repairs.

Because timber can absorb impact, it is often used in structures that help protect bridges, docks, and waterfront facilities from vessel contact.

• Easy installation
• Impact absorption
• Lower initial cost

For the right application, timber piles offer a practical and cost-effective solution for marine construction and repair work.

Sheet piles are retaining walls that are driven or pushed into the ground. Their interlocking design forms a continuous wall that helps retain soil and water.

Piling can be made of various materials, including wood, steel, vinyl, and concrete, depending on the service life, site conditions, and strength requirements.

Vibratory hammers or impact hammers are typically used to install piles. Once installed, sheet piles can provide temporary or permanent support for marine and waterfront construction.

Sheet piles are commonly used as retaining walls, marine bulkheads, and in cofferdams, helping crews safely work in challenging over-water and near-water environments.

🤿 Precision repairs below the waterline.

Progress continues on the Vane Brothers timber rehabilitation project. Our Team is removing deteriorated timber piles and installing steel jackets that will later be filled with concrete to strengthen the existing foundation and extend the service life of the structure.

It's another example of the specialized marine construction work our crews perform safely and efficiently in challenging underwater environments.

This week, our crew recovered fenders from the river using a telehandler while preparing for the final concrete wall pour.
