🌧️ Big rain overnight—and this drainage system got put to the test before we even finished installing it.

The right side of the house is mostly complete and backfilled, and now we’re working our way across the front and toward the left side of the property.

One of today’s challenges was getting our drainage line under the existing concrete walkway without tearing it out. We bored underneath the walkway, allowing us to keep the system moving across the property while leaving the concrete intact.

This is what a comprehensive drainage project looks like. We’re not just burying a few pieces of pipe—we’re connecting multiple collection points and gutter downspouts into a complete underground system designed to capture stormwater, move it efficiently across the property, and discharge it in a controlled location.

A lot of the work disappears once it’s underground, but as the layout comes together, you can really start to see the scale of this system.

And we’re not finished yet. 👊

Follow along to see how this one comes together.

Every drainage project starts with understanding where the water wants to go—then giving it a path that protects the property instead of destroying it.

On this project we:
✔️ Removed stumps and debris that restricted flow
✔️ Regraded the existing swale
✔️ Installed pinned geotextile fabric
✔️ Built a 50-foot dry creek bed with 4–12" river rock

The result is a durable drainage channel that safely conveys stormwater while helping prevent future erosion.

The best drainage system is the one you never have to think about when the next storm hits.

Water always finds a path. Our job is making sure it's the right path.

This project starts with reshaping the drainage swale, removing debris that's blocking flow, and constructing a 50-foot dry creek bed with geotextile fabric and 4–12" river rock. The result is a long-lasting drainage solution designed to safely convey stormwater while helping protect the property from erosion.

🌧️ When water keeps taking the same path, erosion only gets worse.

Years of stormwater runoff had been cutting through this property, washing away soil every time heavy rain moved through.

Instead of continuing to patch the damage, we addressed the source of the problem.

We constructed a 65-foot dry creek bed to capture and safely convey the runoff through the property. The channel was properly excavated and graded, lined with heavy-duty geotextile fabric, and finished with river rock to create a durable system that helps control water while protecting the surrounding soil from further erosion.

We also reused excavated material where possible to rebuild previously eroded areas and finished disturbed soil with seed and straw.

The finished product looks great—but more importantly, it has a job to do every time it rains.

⛰️ Stop the erosion.
🏡 Protect the property.

This isn’t just landscaping. It’s stormwater management built for the long haul.

Looks can be deceiving.

The gutters weren’t the problem—the underground drainage system was.

✔️ Removed failed 4” corrugated pipe
✔️ Installed new 6” SDR-35 main line
✔️ Connected 3 gutter downspouts
✔️ Tied in the existing drainage line
✔️ Added cleanouts at every downspout
✔️ Discharged into the existing storm drain with an 8” outlet

A properly designed underground drainage system protects your foundation by giving water a path that can actually handle heavy rainfall.

If your gutters overflow during storms, the issue may be underground—not overhead.

Every project starts with a problem.

In this case, it was a hillside that washed mud and silt across the driveway every time it rained, causing ongoing erosion and instability.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve completely transformed how this property manages stormwater.

âś” Nearly 190 feet of engineered retaining wall

âś” Approximately 240 feet of engineered dry creek bed

âś” 24-inch catch basin at the end of the creek bed

âś” 18-inch catch basin for driveway runoff

âś” 200 feet of 8-inch SDR-35 main drainage line

âś” New Bermuda sod to restore disturbed areas

The final landscaping and plantings will be completed next, but the drainage system is now in place and ready to do its job.

Thanks for following this project from the first bucket of dirt to the finished transformation. We can’t wait to show you how it performs after the next big storm.

Progress update! 🚧

This project is really starting to come together.

What began as a severely eroded hillside is being transformed into a complete stormwater management system designed to protect the property for years to come.

So far we’ve completed:

âś… Nearly 190 feet of engineered retaining wall
âś… Backfill and compaction behind the wall
âś… Approximately 90% of the engineered dry creek bed
âś… Installation of a 24-inch catch basin
âś… The first section of the new 8-inch SDR-35 main drainage line

Still ahead are the remaining main line installation, retaining wall caps, final grading, and the finishing details that will bring the entire project together.

Every phase gets us one step closer to turning a chronic erosion problem into a long-term drainage solution.

Follow along for the final reveal!

Most people think the retaining wall is the project.

It’s actually just one piece of the solution.

The wall now provides a stable, reinforced slope, but the next step is just as important: constructing a 200-foot engineered dry creek bed that will collect runoff from the hillside and guide it into a 24-inch catch basin.

From there, approximately 200 feet of 8-inch SDR-35 pipe will carry the water safely away from the property.

The objective isn’t to stop the water—it’s to control where it goes.

We’re getting close to the finish line, and we can’t wait to show you the completed transformation.

07/22/2026

Halfway there… and the transformation is already incredible. 💪

This property has been fighting severe hillside erosion for years. Every heavy rain washed mud and silt across the driveway while slowly eating away at the slope.

The solution isn’t just a retaining wall.

âś… Nearly 190 feet of engineered retaining wall
âś… 200-foot engineered dry creek bed
âś… 24-inch catch basin
âś… Approximately 200 feet of 8-inch SDR-35 pipe

Every component works together to collect, control, and safely move stormwater before it has the chance to cause damage.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that you can simply “stop” water. You can’t. The key is giving it a properly engineered path to follow.

We’re about halfway through this build, and there’s still a lot to do. The finished result is going to look completely different while protecting this hillside for years to come.

Follow along as we finish this project and reveal the final transformation!

Every heavy rain moved a little more of this hillside onto the driveway.

Over time, the erosion became more than just a cleanup issue—it was changing the landscape and threatening the long-term stability of the area.

This project includes nearly 200 feet of retaining wall, a large underground drainage system, engineered collection basins, and a dry creek bed designed to control the runoff before it causes damage.

The best part is still ahead.

Follow along as we finish the project.
