One of the great things about the construction industry is being able to point to projects completed in the past and say, "We did that." It is a point of personal and professional pride for our company and employees. Knox Garden Court was completed by Easterday Construction two decades ago and to see it still thriving and receiving rewards of excellence is a source of pride for us. Congratulations to Garden Court Apartments - Indiana, Bradley Company and all that made this possible. 😎👍

Seven years in a row!

We’re proud to celebrate Knox Garden Court Apartments for being named #1 Favorite Apartment Complex in the Best of Starke County through The Leader & WKVI Readers’ Choice Awards — for the 7th consecutive year!

This recognition is a testament to the dedication of the Knox Garden Court team and their continued commitment to providing a welcoming, well-cared-for community for their residents.

Congratulations to the entire team on this incredible achievement, and thank you to everyone in the Starke County community who voted!

Easterday Construction was recognized as a Legacy Member at the dedication for the Associated Builders & Contractors of Indiana/Kentucky Elkhart Training Facility. We've been a member of ABC for over 43 years and have sent many employees on for additional training through ABC. We're proud to be a Merit Shop Contractor.

Several political representatives were there including Congressman Rudy Yakym who spoke briefly. (I had hoped to talk to him about , but didn't get the opportunity.) Our local State Representative Jake Teshka was there as well and we appreciated him coming out for the event.

Water Street Townhomes is Leasing Up

https://www.water-street-townhomes.com/

The Water Street Townhomes project is starting to lease up. Two of the new tenants have personalized the front patios with furniture, flowers and in one case, lights. Very nice! I want to go down there some Friday evening and see how they fare with the Mayor's Summer of Music in River Park Square. The Water Street Townhomes patios should be prime listening spots!

I spent a little time there before a meeting pulling some weeds in the beds. The cooler wet Spring has allowed the landscaping to become established. I'm hoping it didn't suffer too much through the heat we've been having. Things are looking good and I am hopeful that the Creeping Thyme will fill the tree lawns and put on a vibrant display next Spring. What i can't figure out is how to stop the birds from dive-bombing and pooping on the back wall! What's up with that!?

We haven't gotten the final software connections made on the solar panels yet, so I'm eagerly waiting to see the effects on the electric bills. Things are set up for tenants to pay the difference. If things work like they were sold, tenants should mostly be without electric costs in the shoulder months... unless they are big bakers... Ha! The units are all electric, so that should be a plus for them. All of the residential units have supplemental solar. The solar panels are mostly invisible from the ground, but Brent Martin from SRKM Architecture took the picture to the right from the roof of The Heartland Arts Center. He is the Architect for that renovation project as well as the Architect for Water Street Townhomes.

Other than some subcontractor/supplier delays, this was a good project. I'm happy to see some progress towards the project leasing up and supporting itself.

Today is the Ribbon Cutting for Water Street Townhomes in Plymouth. All projects present challenges, but ones like this with multiple funding sources and their associated requirements are each unique. This one also involved multiple property owners, both public and private.

Above and beyond the general goals of work for our employees and not losing money, there are a myriad of other goals. A few of these for this project include: Downtown Revitalization, Workforce Housing for the City of Plymouth, ex*****on of Plymouth Comprehensive Plan and contributing to the health of downtown Plymouth.

We are pleased that we were able to achieve these while also using multiple local subcontractors and suppliers, such as Langfeldt Excavating, Hundt Concrete, Banner Electric, MLE Roofing, Artizan Flooring and Arc Security among others.

Almost all municipalities are welcoming to developers at the administrative level and in initial conversations, but it's the follow-through that makes the difference. Nearly across the board, the various City departments understood the goals and attempted to make things easy to complete this project. I would recommend talking to Plymouth and Mayor Listenberger if you're looking at a new development in Marshall County.

Plymouth Celebrates Grand Opening of Water Street Townhomes
Two-Decade Vision Becomes Reality: New Mixed-Use Development Brings Housing, Commercial Space, and Revitalization to Downtown Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Ind. — The City of Plymouth and Culver Sand Hill Farm LLC will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15th, to officially open the Water Street Townhomes — a landmark mixed-use development that has transformed a former city parking lot into a vibrant residential and commercial hub at the edge of Plymouth’s downtown business district.

Two Decades in the Making
The project began as a vision championed by local, award winning architect, Brent Martin, who spent nearly 20 years working with the City of Plymouth to bring this development to life. The opportunity to move from concept to construction came through a READI (Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative) grant, secured in partnership with the City and supported by the South Bend Elkhart Regional Partnership.

“This project is the result of an extraordinary public-private partnership spanning two different city administrations,” said Martin. “It’s a testament to what persistence, collaboration, and community commitment can achieve.”

From Parking Lot to Community Asset
The site previously consisted of a city parking lot and two older homes. The developer purchased the homes as part of the project, and the parking lot was redesigned and returned to the city with a net gain of 18 additional parking spaces. Where a non-taxable city lot once stood, a productive new development now contributes to Plymouth’s tax base.

The completed development features 12 townhomes, 2 one-bedroom apartments, and new commercial space — all situated catty-corner to Riverpark Square, the beloved community gathering place that hosts the Mayor’s Summer of Music and the weekly Farmer’s Market.

Modern Living with Lasting Appeal
The two-story townhomes offer two- and three-bedroom floor plans, each with a full basement. Interiors feature LVT flooring, quartz countertops, and large windows that flood the spaces with natural light. Rooftop solar panels reflect the development’s commitment to sustainability and long-term energy savings for residents.

Each unit offers grade-level access at the rear and a traditional walk-up entrance at the front, complete with covered doors, private patios, and modern stainless steel cable railing.

A Corner That Commands Attention
Anchoring the development at the northwest corner of Water and Garro Streets is a commercial building designed with a classic brick facade and expansive storefront windows. Two apartments above the commercial space offer residents park views and a front-row seat to the life of the neighborhood below.

Jodie Overmyer, FPAC-NRCS, designed the site’s green spaces using low-maintenance, native plants — creating landscape islands that add beauty and ecological value where only asphalt once existed.

As the saying goes, April Showers bring May Flowers... That may be the case, but the ridiculous April storms we've been having are reeking havoc on the new Blue Creeping Thyme plantings at in City of Plymouth, IN-Mayor's Office. Hopefully, they get established and we'll have a blanket of blue in the tree lawn along Water Street in a few years...

Honestly, this is a fairly minor way of disrespecting the property compared to some situations we've seen. While there's no damage it's still a time consuming cleanup, plus dumpster fees... 🤦‍♂️

Landscaping has started @ in . The tree lawn's being planted w/ Blue Creeping Thyme. This groundcover will fill in over the mulch over time. The mulch is held in place w/ a temp adhesive.

The adhesive sprays on the mulch and protects it from washing away. The erosion control worms provide additional protection.
