I made this piece during my COVID furlough, shortly after George Floyd’s murder, when I was reflecting a lot on the inequities that persist in this country. I’d started doing flower art (I call it “flart”). I’ve never shared this piece publicly before. It’s meant to represent a biracial couple’s marriage — the colors of America represented in the tree, protecting the happily married, very in love couple.

This is just my own creative expression, and I hope it makes you feel something. If it lands wrong for anyone, that wasn’t my intent. Hope you’re all finding some time to reflect on this Juneteenth.❤️🖤💚
